We knew the food would be good & fresh but we didn’t know it would be THIS good and fresh! We ate here twice on different days and both times the food, atmosphere, attentiveness and kindness of waiters, quality of drinks, & more was just beyond perfect! If you want a really good, super fresh meal full of vegetables & herbs and wonderful service that is healthy, delicious, & cooked perfectly with a Vietnamese bent, this is your place! We loved coming here in between days of eating traditional Costa Rican fare….best of both experiences! But guys—-to all these not-so-great reviews complaining about this not being an authentic Vietnamese place…..CORRECT! It’s NOT an authentic Vietnamese place and never did they try to seem that way! This is “fusion” baby! And done wonderfully (hard to do!). First off, if you don’t get their coconut milk-marinated lightly smoked local trout (PS—it’s a very generous portion too!!), what are you even doing?! Even the staff will tell you: it’s the BEST. I’m a chef who lives in trout country of upstate NY and this is maybe the BEST trout I’ve ever had in my life….and my husband, an avid angler, passionately agreed. Just perfectly cooked meat with an incredible fresh coconut flavor, the smallest bite of heat & lime, and crispy skin that I devoured from both our plates! I ate the trout over the herbed salad with mint and cilantro, radish and lettuce and carrots and cucumber twice and still wish I could have been back to have it again! The salad is an amazing price for a fabulous portion of fresh, perfectly made fare. We felt so en energized after and almost couldn’t finish it all! We were full for hours so we could spend 4 hours at the wonderfully cured Jade museum after lunch and not worry about becoming starving halfway through. My husband also had the Chicken Bahn Mi and it was divine! Authentic? No. Absolutely incredible fusion food that made your mouth salivate just thinking about it? Yes! Also the bread was SPECTACULAR. Whoever bakes this is seriously knowledgeable in the French method and is on top of their craft! So good we would have happily eaten bread alone! And, the chicken was juicy, flavored sooo well, and cooked perfectly….like all their food seems to be! Their spring rolls are so fresh & fun and we loved them with shiitake! Their homemade Nuoc Mam sauce mix (shake it first!) was soo good and I loved that we could season everything ourselves. I doused my salad in this lemony-lightly fish sauce mix and it was glorious! Dotted with sriracha for heat & tiny dollops of their high quality hoisin, then mixed, the salad was perfect and I loved that I could add flavor to spots I missed while eating or make a bite of trout hotter or a cucumber bite more acidic or sweeter. Don’t fear saucing yourself— the waiters are so kind & passionate and happy to explain to someone unfamiliar with the ingredients just what ingredient is and their suggestions for each dish. Menu is small but delightful, fresh, perfect. I loved their fresh juice drinks too like sour guava (Cas). All drinks are served with metal straws (yesss!!!!) and you can sweeten yourself (or not at all!) with a Housemade brown sugar syrup, which we LOVED because we love the fruit drinks as refreshingly tart without sugar. It was a thoughtful touch. Oh and their desserts are wonderfully made too (who could expect less?). The passion fruit (maracuyá) tart was fabulous with fresh passion fruit & it’s crunchy yummy seeds on top and a brown butter pastry crust that was not too sweet or rich——it was wonderful and almost earthy as if it had freshly-ground whole grain wheat or something similar…..but not in a “crunchy” vegan mom way. More like in an earthy, nutty, perfect balance to passion fruit way. Darn good. Great food, wonderful staff, and we loved the atmosphere & service. For visitors who don’t speak Spanish, worry not, most servers here are fluent in English too and are so hospitable. Can’t wait to come back again next time in SJ!

We went here for lunch today. We really loved the place. It is cute and comfortable. The service is prompt and friendly. The prices are reasonable. You choose the style of food you want such an Bun (rice noodles and salad). Bahn Mi (like a sandwich), Casado (which is rice, lentils and salad) or Ensalada. Then you choose meats (pork, chicken or smoked trout) and/or vegetables. Each item is at a set price. I had the Casado with pork balls and my wife had the Bun with smoked trout. Both were very fresh and tasty and a reasonable portion. My wife did say that she would prefer that they put the fish on top rather than the bottom and cut it up a bit, but otherwise loved hers as well. The only downside to the place is that the seating is very limited. We really like it and will go back again to try other menu items as most sound great.

Not a typical Vietnamese restaurant, but a good fusion with local delicacy, like smoked trout! Many vegan and vegetarian options as well!! I was there once at the beginning of my trip and I had to go there again at the end of my trip on my stop in San Jose. The Iced Coffee with Ginger is a must-try, especially if you like ginger. It’s pre-sweetened, but that’s what reminded me of ginger tea in Asia. The trout spring roll was very delicious, though it would be better if the sesame seeds were toasted. There was no sesame taste otherwise. The Bun with Smoked Trout and eggplants was also a good combination, with the fish sauce mixture and a little spicy sauce. Never had a chance to try their desserts because I was so full with the foods!! This is so far my favorite place to eat in San Jose other than the typical foods.

This is a must try spot with plenty of vegan and non-vegan food options to satisfy everyone in your group. The food was delicious, we had the mushroom rolls and mushroom banh mi. Both are vegan. Others in our group had the eggplant banh mi and trout ban (noodle bowl). Everyone liked their food. The fruit juices were good too. Bonus points for being LGBTQ friendly. We came here twice during our trip to Costa Rica. It is definitely a spot I would come back to again. The food we had was delicious. I will say the mushroom banh-mi takeaway was a little salty. But when we ate it at the restaurant it was perfect so might have just sat for too long. Staff was really nice and helpful. We did dine-in lunch and take-out dinner (on separate days). I would recommend dining in as the place has a cozy ambiance.

The format is really cool and easy to follow, pick your base, add "protein" (or vegetable), you're all set! My wife got the pescado (fish) and casado (rice + beans). I went for shitake mushrooms and 'bun' (Vietnamese noodles). The fish was phenomenal, that's the winner. Shitake was delicious, slightly healthier, and combined with the noodles, very filling. Both our orders came with side salads. We also grabbed a bottle for 8k colons (~$17 CAD) and it was a nice addition. The cafe itself is very beautiful and worth eating at. The owner / staff were so nice and welcoming to us (foreigners). We would have eaten in, but due to COVID decided to take the food back to our room. It made for great, easy, and healthy takeaway.

For all my vegans, vegetarians, or Vietnamese food lovers out there—this is the place for you! After walking around and doing a city tour for most of the morning this restaurant was the perfect spot to cool off and enjoy a delicious meal. The restaurant offers outdoor and indoor spaces for medium size groups and small ones. The staff was friendly and speaks English and Spanish. The staff gave us recommendations, explained to us how the menu worked and answered all of questions for those of us with dietary restrictions. Everything was prepared fresh and tasted delicious. If you are a ginger-lover I highly recommend their Iced Ginger Coffee; a surprisingly good pairing.
