Three Men in a Boat — Restaurant in Riga

I was a client of this place since I moved into a neighborhood in 2015. Till todays evening, I would put 5 star, no question. Food is always great, home-style. I met the chef once, very nice lady, great professional. Most of the staff there is nice and professional, they carry a good selection of local and international foods, local beer. Here comes the BUT... Today, August 6, 2023, we went for the late dinner as we were busy the whole day. We called in advance and confirmed that the kitchen is working and orders open till 9:30 PM. We were there at 9:10 PM, waited for 10 minutes while new "waitress" paid no attention to us (not like she was busy). I went myself and picked up the menus as I was understanding that kitchen is going to close soon. When we finally caught the waitress attention, she told us that kitchen is already closed. I was very upset as we would have chosen another place if we would know all that. A cozy, more like bar-ish type of cafe, with a terrace and inside seating as well.

Pros:

Quite large selection of tap and bottled beers, as well as non-alco options.

Menu also offers different types of foods, mainly meat dishes (starting from 10€) , soups (6€), salads (Ceasar with different toppings around 10€) and later you can also try their desserts. Large portions are definitely a +!

Cons: I ordered herring with potatoes and it was quite weird that instead of cottage cheese, that mainly always comes with this kind of dish, it was just sliced feta … and it definitely didn’t go together. Not sure if it’s always added there or they just ran out of cottage cheese. 🫠

Overall, prices are good and service...

Local neighbourhood watering hole. Good choice of drinks (beer and spirits) very reasonable prices (try finding beer for 1.60€ in any other place.!). Food could be better, but unlike me, most of the people seem to like it.

Technically this is also a sports bar, so plenty of TV's and they show almost all possible sports events. Great atmosphere!
