KHATULISTIWAH @ Taman Melawati — Restaurant in Ampang Jaya Municipal Council

We (wife and kids) were on our way to Cherating for a long overdue vacation. Scouted the Melawati area, figured let’s just try this place again, it was a while before when we came to this place. I was pleasantly surprised with Khatulistiwah this time round. Menu is simpler, better. We ordered the Gyodon Beef Bowl, and I can assure you, it’s comparatively better than most sushi/Japanese restaurants out there, the beef is moist and meatier, nice balance between sweetness and savory with aroma from Japanese rice and cucumber. The Pasta Pesto is decent, no complaints. The Shakshuka is very very good, can definitely hold its own (e.g compared with more upscale Jibby East’s Dukkah). And the coffee, quite nice actually, and definitely step up vs the green brand most folks (I still don’t understand why) menggila sangat. 2 stars deducted because the food tak sedap and damn pricey for the food taste and quality.

Cons: food taste is bland and tasteless especially for cheesy mushroom alfredo, spaghetti aglio olio and spaghetti bolognese. The aglio olio and bolognese is like the mamak version of it. Cheesy mushroom alfredo is too plain and bland l, not worth the pirce of RM 25 all the food and beverages are expensive. Dont mind the price if the food is great tho. But i would consider the price to be somewhat expensive since the food isnt great and doesnt meet my expectations.

I just love the ambience of this place. I tried their new egg and mushroom on toast. I really hope that it will be served with salt and pepper on the side in sachets or shakers. The latte was excellent. However, I do have some tips .. The servers could be more attentive to the customers rather than being busy on their phone. I had to leave my table to speak to one of them. Perhaps at the not too busy times, they could try to have a chat with the customers to create a more warm and friendly atmosphere. The 2nd order eggs, sausage and baked beans with toast was served on a plate that was swirling around on the table. That made it difficult to eat. Perhaps a table mat would help.
