Tried the mee kolok here after hearing some good things about it. For me personally, mee kolok has always been quite a basic and straightforward dish — nothing too complex or bold in flavour. The version here is decent and does hit the right notes for what you’d expect from a typical, no-frills mee kolok. If you enjoy the traditional, classic style, you’ll probably be satisfied. But for those looking for something a bit more creative or flavour-packed, it might come across as a bit plain or unimaginative.
What’s more interesting is that they also offer mee kampua, which is quite rare to find in a halal version, especially in Kuching. Usually, this dish is more common in Sibu and often not halal-friendly. So kudos to them for making it accessible to more people. Just don’t expect a huge difference — mee kampua is pretty similar to mee kolok, just with slightly wider noodles and a slightly different texture.
Overall, it’s worth giving both dishes a try if you’re curious or haven’t had them before. Just manage your expectations — these are simple Sarawakian staples, so don’t expect fireworks. But hey, sometimes simple and comforting is...
Read moremy family and i went here on saturday and arrived at 10.20am. the place was full but luckily there's a group that just finished their meal and gave the seat to us. we ordered by 10.30am and had to wait for 1 hour for the food to arrive which was by 11.32am
we ordered Wantan Kampua Merah and Wantan Sup. the noodles were very tasteful with sweet and savoury and the wantan sup paired so well with the noodles. there wasn’t much filling in the wantan with the kampua merah, but the for wantan soup, it had a satisfying amount. definitely a recommended menu on the list.
however, waiting for 1 hour for the meal was a dealbreaker for me. we wanted to enjoy the food but everyone was grumpy from the wait. it's a put off especially for a family with elderly or children. it's a famous place with good food, i wish they could come up with a solution to fix the...
Read moreIt was my first time visiting this place after hearing many good things from my friends who are regular customers and kept recommending it. I finally decided to try it out on a weekday and arrived around 9 a.m. It wasn’t crowded at that time, which was nice.
The service could have been faster, but the food made up for it. We ordered the Laksa Sarawak (small size), and to our surprise, the portion was quite generous. We also tried the kuey teow goreng, which had a delicious charcoal aroma and an authentic flavour that reminded us of the famous kuey teow Dolly in Taiping, Perak.
Overall, it was a satisfying meal, and I now understand why my friends keep...
