Ben's Diner — Restaurant in George Town

Not worth to have your meal here. The auntie waitress is way too rude. Since it’s me and fam’s first visit, we asked on food’s recommendation, she replied with an unhappy tone and pointing on the menu “see whether which you want, here’s chicken, here’s pork, here’s lamb” and acting as if she’s really busy when there’s only two table dine-in (including us) LOL. If we knew what’s good, we wouldn’t be asking for recommendation, dear auntie. And we ended up ordering only 3 main courses out of 5 (cause we decided to dine at somewhere else better than this restaurant), so we got asked by the auntie, “har only order 3 ah?” Hahaha I didn’t know about any restaurants’ rules that require each and everyone to order main course. Not child-friendly (for those having babies, they wouldn’t provide any baby chairs for your babies). Place was small and looks not very great for dine-in by the way. Dinner 5-star food, 1-star service. Ordered Pork Jowl, food was delicious n served fast. The lady taking order was rude n loud. 2 of my friends joined later after their dinner so they ordered only a glass of hot water. The lady was unhappy, saying must order a main dish, but my friends refused. And the glass of hot water wasn't served in the end. Woah!!! Never in my life have I ever met this.. I mean.. you can set any law, but write it in the menu or somewhere obvious or let us know in advance.. If we can't make it, we will just leave. That's the problem in Penang.. ppl rate mainly (or just) the taste of the food but not others like service in this case. If we were to rate based on service in Penang, here would be easily a 'gourmet hell'. So, sorry... since you asked for this.. here's your 1-star. This is one of the hidden gem in Penang of what an authentic western food restaurant looks like, something that's been missing in Penang these days. Calming and peaceful environment with really nice music playing always. Very attentive, friendly and the only serving waitress n co-owner in the restaurant. (pls bear with her if u need to wait a bit, she's always trying her best to move her fastest) The food is always authentic and always amaze me everytime I come here again. Lamb Shank, Pork Ribs and Chicken combo is a must have, all of them served with freshly healthily boiled and very generously prepared vegetables, potatoes, carrots... Etc, no fries detected.
