Pinang Bar at Shangri-La's Rasa Sayang Resort and Spa - Penang — Restaurant in George Town

It pains me to review this but they have to improve the food. There's no two ways about it. First the good news, the waiters are incredible, friendly and accommodating, it made dining here fun. Secondly, the seaside ambience. If you come before the sun sets, it's lovely. Breezy, generally cool as far as the tropics go and great sea view. Together with the sound of waves, it would've made for a perfect experience if not for the food.

Sadly for me, I did not find the food enjoyable at all. The choices were limited, visually they didn't look very appetizing. Taste wise, definitely lacking in variety, depth and flavour combinations. This extends from the mains to the dessert. To say that I was disappointed would be an understatement. Especially this being a 5 star top tier hotel.

My only advise to you is, come in the evening, order a drink and snack, enjoy the breeze and seaside ambience, then go elsewhere for food. There's no way it's worth however much you will end up...

Beautiful restaurant by the beach at the Shangri-La Rasa Sayang hotel, Penang. We had dinner during our honeymoon stay here. The staff were very friendly and accommodating (we had to leave our table briefly upon ordering, the staff kindly reserved our table and covered our drinks). We had the lamb and the steak. They were reasonably priced for a restaurant in a hotel. The tastes for both meals were pretty good, good portion with very generous helping of sides (part of the meals). The roasted baby potatoes were very pleasant. We were served a complimentary cheesecake at the end of our meal (super nice and creamy). Our waiter of the night, Badrul, checked on us regularly and was very attentive. Shout out to Badrul for going above and beyond and made it a very special night for us. Hey guys. For the nachos please request sauce aside (unless you like all of them) guacamole, sour cream (Greek yogurt) and cheese sauce, aldo you plan use your hands gonna be very dirty.

Also ordered a steak sandwich and as you can see the steak was well done, and the egg super well fried.

The most disappoint was wait around 15min to be served, and we see our food on hold for almost 10min until someone serve it, after several complains.

The place is family friendly and cozy for a great day or evening. Unfortunately the staff isn’t “qualified” for a 5* hotel. Poor English and rude...
