This is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review here but sometimes you just have to. We didn't want to just eat in our hotel while we were in Batu but my wife and I were disappointed with the local food on offer.Yes the Hawker Centre has a couple of tasty stalls but it's not nearly as good as the Hawker Centres in Georgetown or Kuala Lumpur, so we began to look around and stumbled upon Knife and Fork. Yes the building it's based in is reminiscent of a 1984 UK Shopping Mall and yes Knife and Fork is difficult to find (go up the disused escalators by KFC to the second floor, turn right, right and right again) but the warm welcome we received and the amazing food we ate more than made up for it. We especially loved the Chicken Curry, Sizzling Pork and the Salt And Vinegar Chicken. So in conclusion, don't be put off by the building, embrace its oddity and remember the only reason Knife and Fork hasn't had more reviews on here is because it hasn't been open for long. We've ate in fancier places but not many tastier places. Oh and the owner is as lovely the food!! Knife and Fork will leave...
Read moreI'm so happy that we made the extra effort to find this restaurant. It's easy to get the impression that it's located on the ground floor just left of happy mart, but instead you have to go a little to the right of happy mart and find the escalators or elevator to take you up a couple of stairs. When you see Andrew's place to the left; you can go through that (sorry Andrew), and after two left turns you'll find the knife and fork restaurant on the street facing side of the building.
We were meet by the most beautiful smile a mask can't hide, and assurances that "no garlic and no onion" would not be a problem at all. We then went on to ask for a special dish that was not on the menu, and of course that was no problem at all. After some rattling of pans in the kitchen while we enjoyed our spring roll starters we were served a sizzling presentation of the love of cooking.
I can't guarantee you'll find it as enchanting as we did, but... please, don't miss the opportunity to fall in love with this hidden gem.
We're going there...
Read moreTried this small family-run restaurant in mid Dec 2018. Simple set up, almost minimalist , homey look and feel. Food was straightforward, lives up to the name of the item on menu. Grilled chicken was well done, meat was tender & juicy, not dry. STAR was the Special Pork Wonderland- looked like a pork schnitzel fried in breadcrumbs. Aunty Thor was extremely accommodating when I requested for a simple vegetarian fried rice, checked my dietary restrictions several times; the fried rice came with good 'wok hei'. Serving was generous & very filling.
Recommended place for a cheap & good eat when in Batu...
