I am rather harsh on the review of Batu Ferringhi Night Market because it wasn't what I expected and I didn't enjoy the experience.

What I was expecting was a night market with a mix of street food stalls and shops selling authentic local produces. However, there was a limited number of street food stalls within the market itself.

There are quite a number of food places available though from places like Long Beach Cafe or The Ship - which are within close proximity to the market but the lack of street food vendors that are integrated into the market is a major minus point for me.

The market though mainly offers a wide variety of counterfeit products - ranging from shoes, belts and bags. They do sell iconic Penang- centric graphic T-Shirt but most of the products seems to be targeting tourists. A lot of the stores are actually a repetition of one another and they essentially sell the same products.

All in all, if depends on the objective of your travel. If you are looking for a shopping spree - this may be a good place as there are tons of vendors selling a wide variety of souvenirs and accessories - although counterfeit they may be.

But if you are more of a foodie who wants to explore the night market for the local street food by the roadside kinda thing - you are better off not including this as part of...

Shopping: Visited Penang night market Very long string of shops along the road selling counterfeit stuff. Asked for Michael Kors handbag which exactly looks like my wife’s original, she paid £375 in UK but the counterfeit version sells for Rm100. You can gaggle the price down and still don’t have to buy - good for gagging experience.

Eating: There are lots of food court. We selected one and tried out: large tiger prawn with black pepper source (price: Rm26) Large Grill fish (price: Rm59) Small Char Quay Theo (price: Rm5) Small Nasi gorang (Rm5) Small Vegetable soup and rice (price: Rm7)

The food taste is not down to earth. It’s very much customized for westerners. I tasted the same food in other parts in Malaysia so I know). If you have the western tong, this is good. They also has western food and pizza. I saw western kids having them. Overall the cost is cheap compared to UK prices. I am a regular visitor to Chinese in UK, same food would have been cost me around £120. So pricewise worth a visit.

drink counter sells beer, soft and hot drinks at reasonable price.

Getting there: I went to this place from George Town and the taxi cost me Rm30-35. If you want to take the bus use bus 101 and...

Was there recently September 2025 and was disappointed as it wasn’t like what it use to be, very few retail stalls with less variety, also less dining options. Visitors who choose to stay on that side of the island look for walks to the night market which is fun to do especially after dinner for some fun, bargain shopping. Hope the local authorities look to revive the night market and offer some form of assistance to attract the local arts, crafts; culture & coffee communities to help revive this once vibrant and fun night market area. The upside is a fairly newer area further up - the Ferringhi Bay which offers a nice stretch of beachfront open concept eateries on the beach which is reasonable in terms of pricing and offers a good variety of...

Quite disappointed when I came, as I heard that this place has many stalls and is a really lively place. I arrived around 7.15pm, and thought it’s still early so we went to starbucks for coffee and chill a bit before setting out again. Around 8pm, place is still quiet, and some stalls only just started setting up. So we walked around, went to dinner at long beach hawker, and came out around 8.45pm, place is still quiet and nothing much to look at. Just walked the whole stretch one more round took only about 15 mins, and we went off around 9.30pm. Nothing much to do here.

Tons of stalls offering crafts, art, souvenirs, clothes, shoes sunglasses, wallets, beachwear and toys for kids. Vendors are polite and not too aggressive. Lots of restaurants to choose from offering local and western dishes. Along the main strip not too much vehicle traffic which makes it easy to walk around and cross the street. The only ATM available is at the beginning of the strip close to the McDonald's. There are lit up cycle trolleys that will take you up and down the strip, they are quite pricey though 30 RM for half of the strip.
