This was our lunch place over the Sunday weekend.
A good crowd was building up around 2pm at the restaurant. Some were leaving after lunch but there was still a queue forming.
Location of the place wasn't too difficult as it was at the end of the street just beside the road. Nothing is blocking it. Parking is also easy, a lot of parking lots around the place, quite convenient.
We were greedy...., we ordered many items. For mains, we had the Penang lor mee, fried black hokkien noodles, nasi goreng and the dry Mee Siam with sambal sotong.
For desserts, we tried the green tea sesame kueh, the sesame red bean ball, the lotus fungus soup, and the butter toast.
Most of the items were quite pleasant in taste. The nasi was rather outstanding. The green tea cakes were interesting too. Perfect for afternoon tea.
However, most of their dishes are also available elsewhere and they could be even tastier in some other places.
Prices were slightly on the high side knowing that this is a proper restaurant. For that price, you are rest assured of the quality.
We sat outside with the breeze blowing even tho it was a very hot afternoon, but we felt alight. Ambience was ok, decent enough for a meal.
Service was nice, staffed with young people serving customers. They were diligent and quick.
The ONLY setback was..., they do not have pork related foods items., as they are probably a halal restaurant.
If Nanyang kopi had pork dishes, I'm sure the queue...
Read moreNasi Briyani with Ayam Merah visually looks very fancy attractive and presentable but unfortunately, in the savouring department the briyani rice lacks the taste of a real briyani should taste like, even the nuts and raisins also doesn't blend well. The rice, despite vividly coloured but actually tastes bland. Instead of using proper keropok or papadom, it uses tidbits snack crackers which i find offbeat because it doesn't blend well. Furthermore, for a person who is hungry might find the portion a bit too small (photo angles seem like a generous portion but it's not so). The masak merah chicken meat is tender soft but tastes very meh, not the umami authentic masak merah flavour. The only side dish I find it good is the acar acar, vege pickles.
Hainanese Chicken Chop, despite being well fried and crispy but lacks well marinated taste. Luckily, the dipping gravy is thick and sufficient enough to go along with the chop. Potato wedges were okay but chili sauce can be extra more for...
Read moreReview of Egg Tarts & Mee Siam:
Walking into the cafe, I was immediately hit with the nostalgic scent of egg tarts fresh out of the oven. Those tarts had a beautifully golden hue, with a crust that was the perfect balance of crispy and melt-in-your-mouth buttery. And the custard? Oh, it was soft, subtly sweet, and reminded me of treats from my childhood.
Now, the Mee Siam? It was a flavor explosion! The thin noodles perfectly absorbed that zesty, spicy broth. The sambal added that much-needed texture, while the squeeze of lime gave it a fresh kick. It felt like I was tasting the essence of Southeast Asia on a plate.
If you're looking for a meal that takes you on a culinary adventure, this combo of creamy egg tarts and zingy Mee Siam is a must-try. It was a meal...
