The Caravan Cafe Bukit Mahkota — Restaurant in Kajang Municipal Council

Strictly in regards to food quality, I'd say this place is very good. Ordered crispy chicken panini with chilli garlic sauce, and it was amaaaazing. The panini bread was toasted with some sort of herb /garlic spread, and the sauce itself (apparently made from scratch) is extraordinary. The chicken was meh but again the sauce more than made up for it. Wife was also very happy with her selection of salted calamari and prawn kuey teow; I thought I've tasted better, but then again I'm not really a fan of the latter in general. The waiters were mostly very polite and very helpful. Our experience was slightly marred by the presence of unruly children yelling and running around for a large portion of our visit; of which neither the parents nor cafe's staff made any effort to curb. The online ordering system might also be improved. Call me old-fashioned, but I also found ordering by QR Code scan into a webpage into a login into a TAC into an order menu sort of defeats the purpose when it takes more time to do so compared to physical ordering. There's good value in having the pictures of the food in the online menu as well as the options available, but many of those pictures were not available. From Favourite Spot to Fading Glory

This café used to be one of my all-time favourites, a go-to for meals with friends, colleagues, and family. The ambience, complete with soothing instrumental music, once made it the perfect hangout.

But sadly, those days are gone. In chasing a bigger menu, the café has traded away what mattered most: quality, taste, and consistency. Portions have shrunk, flavours have dulled, and presentation has slipped from elegant to embarrassing. The nasi lemak tells the whole story, once evolving from bad to excellent, then tumbling back downhill. Today’s plate? Bland, poorly presented, and with rice that looked more sepia-toned than appetising white.

To make matters worse, the new ordering system is a mess, with items vanishing into digital limbo and no proper sync between phone and counter. The only hero left standing is the Caravan Coffee, still one of the best around and the café’s last saving grace.
