Food : Very, very tasty nasi lemak with pork curry and ma lai kou (steamed cake). Curry was decently rich. Rice with char siew and pork lard was nice but I think it doesn't stand out as much as the other food items on the menu. Sambal sotong (that we ordered ala carte) was only RM7 and there was definitely a lot of sotong for 2 pax. Kochabi guan lor hor fen was nice (did not take the cockles) and the sambal accompaniment was a good addition to flavour the dish.
Steamed bread with kaya and butter was nice and soft, as expected.
Teh was also rich, creamy and kaw (look at my photo!).
Milo wasn't very sweet but also was not as flavourful/creamy/rich as my iced coffee (though some time had passed, my kopi wasn't watery at all). My husband liked his Milo though. 😂
Prices are VERY reasonable. Nasi lemak with curry pork slices (decent amount 😁) RM10.90 Rice with char siew and lard RM10.90 Iced Milo RM4.80 Iced coffee RM3.80 Hainan steamed bread RM3.30 Ipoh steamed bread RM3.70 6% service tax
We came here around 3pm at a non-peak hour so there were no other customers around. If you come during peak hours, expect to queue and wait as food is good but seats are limited here.
EDIT: They have FINALLY expanded their cafe so seats are wayyyy more now. We dropped by at 11.15am and easily got a seat for 2 pax. At 12pm, there were still extra...
Read moreI've passed this place a few times and it is always crowded. This time, I decided to give it a try to see what the fuss is all about.
The menu is similar to many other kopitiams of its irk but they do have some rather unique items as well. Besides the usual kaya toast and nasi lemak, it also serves glutinous rice, porridge and even assam laksa. Prices are quite reasonable so that probably explains the crowd.
I wasn't that hungry so I ordered the loh bak kou or fried radish cake. I was pleasantly surprised because the quality is very good and easily puts the loh bak kou from many dim sum restaurants to shame. The outer layer of the radish cake is crispy and the inside is soft and creamy. There is a good amount of preserved sweet radish to give that nice crunch plus nice fat Ipoh taugeh.
We also ordered the nasi lemak with curry chicken. Not bad but I did find the sambal a little too sweet to my liking. However the sambal paired very well with the loh bak kou. Sounds weird but trust me and give it a try.
Lastly, we also tried the luncheon meat rice with crispy pig lard. Quite decadent I know but YOLO.
The restaurant was pretty crowded but service was rather fast although the radish cake did come a bit later than the...
Read moreDon't be fooled by the good comments from others. Probably by the friends and family, or their so called vip. The workers there practice cronyism, the special VIP will get the air cond best seats immediately while other regular customers just wait for a long time and get the worst seats and treatments. Similarly waiting for your food. Food are nothing special, u can get from other normal kopitiam around bmc or sg long. If u want tong sui, just go to restoran 95 opposite Maybank sg long or yuen further dowm the road, both places better customer service than this.
Sorry, not for me, we have enough cronyism in our daily life.
Respond to owner's comment - you need to implement booking list for air cond table at your reception counter, even though customer says they are ok to seat temporary at the non air cond place, ensure that your staff registered their request and based strictly on first come first serve basis, not based on your staff preferences and little Napoleon style - my preferred customer and Leng lui will get the best seat and...
