We had a very unpleasant experience at this Sushi Mentai outlet on 27th July at 6:30pm.
We made a booking and were given a queue number, so we assumed our seats were secured. When we arrived, there was no seat ready, but we waited patiently. Eventually, one staff member (Staff #1) told us to enter the restaurant, saying our seats were now available.
When we reached the assigned table, we were confused because it only had 6 seats, and there were 8 of us. We stood there waiting for clarification. Then another staff (Staff #2, a Chinese male staff) came over and asked how many people we had. We told him 8, and he immediately got annoyed and asked us to go back outside to wait — speaking to us in a way that made it seem like we forced our way in, which we absolutely did not. We were simply following instructions.
What followed was complete confusion:
Another staff asked us to sit near the entrance
Then they changed their minds and told us to return to the original 6-seater table
Only then did they say the rest of our group had to sit outside
We were kicked around from the front to the back of the restaurant during this whole process — all because the staff couldn’t plan, arrange seating properly, or communicate clearly and politely.
Throughout this, Staff #2’s tone remained harsh and unprofessional, as though we were causing trouble, when in fact we just did what each staff member told us to do. Out of frustration and embarrassment, one of our family members did raise his voice briefly before we stormed out — not to cause a scene, but because we genuinely felt mistreated.
We later saw a review from a regular customer (Dancer Nguyet) claiming to witness the entire incident. With all due respect, that version doesn’t reflect the full story. We did not rush in or demand seats — the confusion came from staff miscommunication, not us. If CCTV footage is available, we welcome Sushi Mentai to review it.
Being a regular doesn’t make someone’s assumptions about others more valid. Respectful and consistent service should be for all customers.
If working in F&B makes you easily annoyed or unable to treat guests with basic courtesy, it may be time to reflect on whether this is the right job.
Sushi Mentai, please contact me as soon as possible regarding this matter. We’ve submitted official feedback and would appreciate a...
Read more*Second visit after MCO, we dine in at 8pm and overall experience is definitely better than last time. Lots of sushi on the belt this time, we were seated pretty quickly, Chinese staff abit grumpy (probably because the boss keep monitoring on field) but done his job professionally. Foreigner staffs are so polite. Will come back again. I will choose this over their C180 outlet anyday anytime for now.
Previously.... "Been to Penang's and Kota Damansara's Sushi Mentai. But this one is the most weird and a quite unpleasant experience ever. Before enter, I scan MySejahtera (added my gf as dependent) and the temperature. And a middle age man (probably the boss himself) comes out and approach us. Even though I have shown him there's two name in the scanned MySejahtera and fully vaccinated status, my gf shown her vaccination status too). He seems still in disbelief, then double check again our MySejahtera, only let us in. Interior lighting is quite dim, and there's not much sushi on the conveyor belt, so we ordered from the menu (some items are not available after we ordered). But it takes so long, about 25 minutes to serve us the food. Mind you, the restaurant isn't full at the moment, quite a number of big tables are still empty. Food is fine though, quite consistent with...
Read moreWorst service ever. Went there for takeaway and they told me I have to wait for 30min. Waited for 45min and went to check on my order only to find it sitting at a corner. My udon soup was already cold so the food must’ve been sitting for at least 10min. The guy didn’t even apologize, just told me he wanted to call but was busy attending to other customers. He asked me if I wanted a plastic bag, I said yes and he kept me waiting for another 5min with the plastic bag in his hand while he attended to a couple who wanted to dine in! Seriously, if you’re craving for sushi, drive a little further to C180. The outlet over there has much better service and there are many more sushi restaurants to choose from. Don’t bother coming here unless you have absolutely no...
