Pricey, meat is dry, bad service and very very very calculative with side dishes!

Despite their grilled pork which is always rather dry and not marinated enough, I still recommended and frequent Bon Ga alot for their amazing varieties of Banchan. But they have become very calculative and petty with their banchan.

It begins with my friends being late to dinner for more than an hour. After an hour of wait I decided to order away to start eating so that I could have the time to digest the food before a badminton session after. I was then served with a plate of cooked grilled pork, with no banchan (see pic). After asking for the third time (yes, for the first 2 times, none of the waiters told me that I cant be served with side dishes cause my friends havent arrived), a Korean lady came to tell me that they can’t serve me the banchan cause my friends were not here yet. If I started eating first then my friends who come later will ask for a refill. She added that they only serve banchan after full order is served.

I explained to her why I needed to dig in first and she still refused to serve me with the banchan. She said in Korea we’re supposed to wait for everyone to be here to get started. So I asked if that’s the case why did you serve me with a plate of cooked pork now? If I’m not expected to start eating, the cooked porky will be cold dry porky by the time my friends arrived. She said I can reheat when they’re here. (The thing is the grilled pork is already dry without the reheat.) So I said “can you then take the cutleries away and take it that I’m dining alone? Or are you saying that if I come alone I cant have the dishes too?” She eventually said impatiently “fine fine you can have your side dishes, we’re not supposed to argue with customers”.

Still couldnt appreciate the logic that I cant start eating when my friends have not arrived and that my friends will ask for a refill when they come later - not sure if she meant if we eat together we wouldnt ask for a refill? - but fine, I’m never returning.

My recommendation - buy pork and pan fry...

Was craving soy marinated crabs and decided to try out Bonga's after seeing the good reviews. It DID NOT disappoint! 💯 Ordered the ganjang gejang set RM53 that came with 1 good sized crab + rice mix with seaweed, raw egg yolk, green onions + soybean paste stew + 6 side dishes. Perfect for a solo diner!

The crab was fresh and tasted wonderful. I tried requesting for one with crab roe. The staff kindly explained that he'd try his best to check with the kitchen, but no guarantees as it would depend on their current supply, which was totally understandable. There was no crab roe, but they did serve me one with a generous amount of tomalley in the crab shell 🦀😋. So soo good! I've tried other places "specialising" in soy marinated crab, like the infamous OMG Crab, and it doesn't even come close to this. The crabs were always either not fresh/frozen, slimy or too small in size with barely any flesh. This was the first one that tasted authentic, like the ones you watch on kdramas/mukbangs.

Shout out to the staff who was super friendly and attentive, checking in on the table every now and then 👍. That feeling when your craving is satisfied 🥰🤩 ... truly made my day! I'll definitely...

Yesterday evening my friends n I had our dinner at this Korean restaurant. We ordered some noodles n some pork n beef n chicken dishes in small portions cos there were only a few of us. We were given a small private room to dine in. Outside the tables were mostly occupied although it was not a weekend. What I don't like about the private room is we had to remove our shoes before entering the small room. The inconvenience of taking our shoes off really puts me off. On top of that the floor was rather sticky n I really doubt if the staff ever mopped the place well. Furthermore we had to sit with the low table n our feet had to go below the low table. We are not used to being seated this way. When our feet touched the floor below we could feel the stickiness of the dirty floor below the table. This really makes us uncomfortable. The food came sizzling hot though. This sort of made up for the shortcomings. We had about 6 side dishes n the hot Korean green tea was quite good. They were also very generous with their bottled water. On the whole the food was satisfactory n the kimchi was good n yummy. If only they mop the floor more often then the guests would feel...
