Cha Don Kopitiam presents itself as a modern take on the traditional kopitiam, a place where locals and visitors can gather for a quick bite, a caffeine fix, or a casual chat. The food spans the familiar spectrum of Chinese-Malaysian comfort: curry noodles thick and aromatic, Hainanese chicken chops accompanied by fries and cubes of vegetables, and a parade of HK-inspired breads and buns.
The hits are clear: the curry chee cheong fun is solid, rich, and makes you want to dive in face-first. The fish paste is good, the crispy toppings generous, and the curry’s flavour does most of the heavy lifting. The Signature Hainan coffee is smooth, strong and Mom-approved. The polo buns are sweet, the croissants flaky, and the Kaya butter toast and peanut butter buns are comfort food with a punch.
Not everything here works. Yam abacus and yam balls are divisive; heavy on peanut or starch, light on authentic flavour. The lamb soup noodles are shy on meat, and sometimes the croissants arrive with more onion than tuna. But portions are generous, prices reasonable, and don’t expect every dish to be a knockout.
Yet, through all this, the staff consistently impress. They guide diners through menus, offer promotions with a smile, and manage a space that can feel both bustling and welcoming. Even amid minor service hiccups, such as long waits for drinks at times or the occasional slow food delivery, the care of the staff makes Cha Don feel more than just a collection of dishes.
The décor also has its quirks: tables close together, a little noisy, but great for chatting with friends. Just don’t sit by the air curtain or outside near smokers unless you enjoy involuntary aromatherapy. Parking is easy. The environment is clean, air-conditioned, Wi-Fi is available, and it’s quiet enough for small talks or catching up with family.
Cha Don thrives in comfort food territory. It’s not a temple of culinary innovation; it’s a safe harbour for curry, noodles, and sweet buns. Promotions on drinks are tempting, and for a casual meal, it hits the mark. Just don’t trust the hyperbolic five-star reviews, and manage expectations for anything with yam. Otherwise, it’s a solid spot to eat, drink, and survive the day without your wallet...
Read moreCame here because I saw some good reviews.
But unfortunately it was quite a disappointing visit.
I ordered their curry ccf. It came with insufficient curry gravy. When I requested for more, they wanted to charge extra. I have a thing with places who dont give enough gravy and charge for extra. Just my pet peeve. And it was not stated in their menu that extra gravy is chargeable.
Curry ccf was aromatic but the ccf noodles were not springy nor chewy. It was one of those cheaper textured types. The ccf came with crispy fish cake and fish ball. There was no other protein included. The crispy fishcake was good but the fishball was so bland. No flavour at all. Overall I wouldnt order this again.
My parents had their shanghai scallion oil noodles. Goodness the noodles took SO LONG to arrive. It took 25mins from order printed to arrival. My parents were really hungry so I felt quite bad for them. These noodles however, were good, springy and the oil was very aromatic.
Then we ordered a croissant but they forgot the order and again we waited for another 15-20 mins.
Croissant arrived finally. Portion is very big and croissant is very fresh. No complaints here.
Cleanliness: Their cutlery and tables were all clean and good. But their floors to the toilets were all broken and flaking. The toilets were also needed abit of cleaning.
Going to be honest here. Came here because the reviews on google were very high.
But upon closer inspection, it seems they are soliciting 5star reviews by giving cheap drinks in exchange for a 5star review.
I wont come here again as I live far away. But I would like to see them do well in their business so I hope they will take everything...
Read moreHow if I can give 0⭐. I went to this shop after seeing 4.1⭐ from google, then “naik kereta”. Wonder where the average 4.1⭐ came from. After going through the whole menu, there is no one food attracted our eyes. All the food are so pricey. i.e. Nasi lemak with chicken RM19.90?? Doesn’t the owner realize where is the location and what people are they serving there? Ham & Cheese Croissant RM8.90 – I’m so surprise nowadays you can get a croissant which looks so dull and sad from a shop, the croissant looks so dry and totally not shining and soft, soft as in soggy. Shrimp and scallop soup ramen RM12.90 – Yes you see it. SHRIMP AND SCALLOP SOUP without SHRIMP AND SCALLOP (or even the taste) and not even a piece of meat, just mushroom and mushroom. And they put a lemon in the noddle, make the taste sour and weird. This is not about creativity, if there is REAL shrimp and scallop in the soup, do you think you still need lemon to steal the thunder? Scallion oil ramen RM12.90 – just a very normal gong lou noodle which is sweet and without much scallion taste, and a few piece of cheap fish cake.
Such an extremely unsatisfied and unpleasant meal. Felt so shameful to bring my family there. Please don’t go there, you are 101% can find somewhere much better food around Menjalara area. Even a...
