After seeing the positive reviews, we decided to give this place a try. Unfortunately, we made a terrible mistake and days ruined. It quickly became clear that many of the reviews here are either not genuine or written by people who have no real understanding of what authentic Japanese cuisine should look and taste like. Turns out they have been running campaign to get the staff to pressure customers into giving high ratings in exchange for free ice cream/drinks/jelly.
We were extremely disappointed. The restaurant’s décor might be fancy on the outside, but the quality of the food was abysmal and certainly not worth the price. The sushi train covers looked dirty and deteriorated, with visible scratches all around, making much of the food appear unappetizing. The chicken karaage was especially disappointing—it wasn’t crispy at all. Very small portion, only 4 piece and 1 skin. It tasted like it had been refried after sitting out overnight; the texture was soft, rigid, and difficult to chew, much like stale chips left exposed to the air for too long.
The unagi eel was terrible—it was slightly undercooked and served cold, as if it had been sitting out for a while. Instead of being grilled over charcoal, as it should have been, it was clearly pan-fried. The result was a soggy, slimy texture with no browning on the skin, indicating it was still undercooked and poorly handled. It wasn't a big deal but apparently there were still some tiny bones around. The portion size was also disappointing—more akin to what you’d expect from an unadon, rather than a proper serving of eel.
I have initially ordered a rice to go with the unagi eel, I even asked the server where was it on the menu as I couldn't find it. it somehow was not entered into the system or order and I had to request again after everything else has came out, I presume it was a strategy to delay our hunger so we take more food from the sushi train or order more. I forgot to take a photo of the rice, not only that it was low quality and tasted funny. It did not come with Furikake as advertised on the menu.
While some of the other sushi was decent, it was still overpriced; you could easily get twice the amount for the same price elsewhere. The aburi salmon was the only rare highlight, made to order and therefore fresh. However, the tuna was clearly not of the best quality—it was overly firm and hard to chew, likely due to improper cutting and handling by the chef.
Once again, I’m baffled by the high ratings. It seems many people who visit here either don’t know what authentic Japanese cuisine should be or are more impressed by the atmosphere than the actual food. Perhaps they’re simply satisfied as long as their stomachs are full, without considering the quality or authenticity of the meal.
If you’ve ever been to Japan or tasted food prepared by a Japanese chef, you’d immediately recognize the stark difference. For what it’s worth, I would not recommend coming here and save yourself your expectation, time and money elsewhere. The menu is overpriced, and the quality falls far short of the expected standard.
On a positive note, our server provided excellent service and was very attentive. However, one of the middle aged female staff, who might have been the manager, was extremely rude. Though she acted polite initially, she struck up a conversation as we were leaving that dripped with sarcasm, implying that we had no idea what we were talking about and that we didn’t belong in their establishment simply because of where we came from or because we supposedly couldn’t afford their...
