Humboldt is easily one of the most exciting dining spots I’ve discovered recently. It’s the kind of place where the kitchen clearly cares — every plate tells a story, the flavors are bold and soulful, and the drinks are just as carefully crafted. Even better? It delivers all of that without the sky-high price tag. Three standouts made this a truly memorable experience:
⸻
🐟 Pescado Encocado – Comforting, Coastal, and Full of Soul This dish is everything you want in a seafood stew. The fish was impeccably fresh and perfectly cooked — tender, moist, and infused with the velvety, coconut-based encocado sauce. The sauce itself was the star: creamy, fragrant, with a subtle warmth from spices and just enough acidity to balance it all out. Served with rice and sweet plantains, it was rich, hearty, and utterly satisfying. You could taste the coastal roots in every bite.
🐇 Conejo Chactado – Crispy Rabbit, Elevated Rabbit isn’t something you find on many menus — and certainly not executed like this. The Conejo Chactado was fried to golden perfection, shatteringly crisp on the outside while keeping the meat juicy and flavorful inside. The seasoning was bold but well balanced, with a smoky-spicy profile that paired beautifully with the bright house-made sauces served on the side. It’s a dish that surprises, delights, and leaves you craving more.
🍸 Martinis – Surprisingly Sophisticated & Seriously Good What really caught me off guard was the cocktail program — their martinis are on par with KL’s best bars. I tried both their signature and classic variations. Each was ice-cold, expertly balanced, and made with precision (no watery pours or lazy mixing here). Whether you’re into a dry gin martini or something with a Latin twist, the bar team knows their craft and delivers with flair — and again, the pricing is more than fair for the quality.
⸻
💰 Excellent Value for Quality One of the biggest surprises at Humboldt is the price point. For the level of cooking, portion sizes, ingredient quality, and drink craftsmanship, you’d expect to pay significantly more. It’s refined yet approachable, making it perfect for casual nights out or special occasions that don’t break the bank.
⸻
🪴 Atmosphere & Service The space has a warm, understated elegance — a great mix of contemporary and earthy textures that reflect the culinary roots of the menu. Staff were knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about the food and drinks. It never felt rushed, but always attentive.
⸻
✅ Final Verdict:
Humboldt delivers big flavors, creative cocktails, and honest pricing. The Pescado Encocado, Conejo Chactado, and martinis are absolute must-tries — and together, they made for one of the most satisfying meals I’ve had this year.

Read moreThe Humboldt experience is a masterclass in mixology and hospitality. Their dedication to crafting exceptional cocktails is palpable, resulting in some of the most nuanced and exquisitely balanced libations I've encountered in Kuala Lumpur. Between my friend and I, we tried about 15 cocktails from their menu in total and most of them did not disappoint.
While the pricing reflects a premium offering, the breadth and depth of their spirit selection, coupled with the sheer artistry of their drinks, render it a worthwhile investment.
Beyond the liquid artistry, the culinary offerings, exemplified by the perfectly executed empanadas and the succulent antichuchos de pollo, further underscore the team's unwavering commitment to excellence.

Lovely place but felt strangely cold despite the crowd. Did not really feel welcome. A couple of Caucasian young men who were serving seemed incredibly brusque. (I suspect they may be part owners). It was mitigated by the host at the door (a black guy who also might be a part owner here) who was polite and accommodating despite the crowd.
To be fair to the team, a visit during a normal night may give a better customer experience.
The Torch Ginger Highball by the team having a guest shift was...
