Finally made it to restaurant aik yuen after numerous recommendations over the years! This place is amazing! Serves up one of the best and meanest KL Hokkien Mee you can find! Look at the generous amount of crispy pork lard atop the plate that is full of wok hei and umami. Adding their signature chilli makes a different level of taste too so you can try it both ways with and without chilli.
Their crispy prawn noodles was one of the tastiest I’ve tasted too. The gravy was simply too amazing, tasted like prawn with a tinge of Chinese ginger, a blend that’s simply too good with crispy noodles.
Moonlight hor fun was great too, but it was definitely less stellar as compared to the other 2 dishes, maybe expectations were much higher because of the earlier 2 dishes.
All in all, a definite stop to taste KL Chinese street food every time you visit here. I sure as hell would be back in...
Read moreWarning, your food may take up to an hour or more to be ready! Ordered hokkien mee, spicy sour lala (clam) and fried saito fish (herring) cake to be taken away at 2202 hrs, it was ready at 2304 hrs. My guess is because it was only a chef (also the owner, perhaps) did the main cooking, and there were around 10++ tables and take away orders to be served. The hokkien mee was big in portion as for 1 pax (RM10+2 加猪油渣), taste was average up, slightly oily but could be quite satisfactory to some. Meat and vegetables were not much, just mainly noodles. Spicy sour lala (RM 20/pax) was delicious, soupy, just the right balanced flavors, generous portion of fresh lala. The fried fish cake (RM 7/piece) was good too, fresh and good flavored, excellent as a snack, go with the chili sauce that wrapped in the packaging...
Read more#AikYuen is the place we go for late night supper when I grow up. 😋 We didn't even know the name of the shop; we just called it the noodle shop behind Tawakal Hospital. I went back to the place again yesterday. The Hokkien Noodles are still cooked with a lot of wok hei 🔥 and yummy. We also ordered the soup with sliced pork (bak kao teng) and fried sotong. Surprisingly, the taste of the food is still the same as before. Top with freshwater prawns with crispy egg noodles. Although it was priced at RM 68, aside from the freshwater prawns, the noodles were like a seafood fiesta - it was full of regular prawns and clams cooked in ginger scallion egg sauce. It was a fulfilling meal that filled wistful memory.
