"Authentic comfort food comes from years of perfecting and consistently duplicating the quality."
Over the weekend, we chanced to pass by Jinjang market and decided to recce the area in search of food with a story. This review is actually the resultant output and what a chance find it was.
Xiu Ye Mao is owned and managed by Mr Soh. According to him, he has operated the Pan Mee outlet for circa 35 years. And before him, his mother operated the business for at least 12 years.
Since the ruinous pandemic threat, they stopped running long hours (...i heard at one time they even did 24hours with 2 worker shifts). Now this place is open 11am to 10pm.
Backdropped by this beautiful endearing story of persistence to keep the business and mother's legacy going, the Pan Mee was actually quite good. When 'quite good' ....it means the taste was authentic enough and sufficiently memorable for us to revisit.
When reading some of the comments, i couldn't help but wonder if they actually had sensible comments to offer. You dont go to a 45-year-old Pan Mee business and order Curry Pan Mee! I mean, these are Bonkers writing reviews!
Any good Pan Mee needs 3 things. Good soup base that's moderated in its MSG usage, and soup is served very hot. The 'pan mee' itself must not be too soft and 'limp' but a little springy yet 'bite-able'. Texture is important as the pan mee is the star. Accompanying signature chillies. A good chilli sauce elevates the entire bowl, and the difference is akin to elevating a pub-singer to mini concert artiste.
Xiu Ye Mao scores on all 3 criteria. They make the pan mee on-site ....flour to dough to noodles. Can't be wrong there, right? Chillies had a greenish hue....a sign they made their own signature chill sauce, and the soup was well balanced and served piping hot. A good food cum sauna session actually.
So to all detractors and commentors.....they started the business possibly before you were born! Please respect an enduring business. Though it is not 'atas' nor air-conditioned, they serve a pretty good bowl of noodles....and for sure i will be back.
We ordered the traditional soup pan mee and also the lorh pan mee. Both hit the mark!

Read moreVery rude attitude service. Black list !
3 times order, 3 different people ( Lady Boss, uncle and malay girl) and all orders was wrong.
Today, i order two more food inside my curry me. They count me as RM 21.90 including teh bing then i feel curious that why it so expensive. Then lady boss mentioned me add on 3 food and I didn’t order 3 foods and i only eat 2 extra foods. I told them that the girl order wrong again and lady boss still want me pay price of add on 3 foods. Which it is not fair, I didn’t order it and i I didn’t eat 3 foods too.
I argue with her then she ask her staff and her staff say got 3 foods. My thoughts is i got eat 3 foods but it is not my order and you give me to me then why I should pay the price. The main point is I didn’t eat it. She willed to give price of 2 add on foods to me but attitude still rude and no any apologies.
I feedbacks to them that their service of take order and handle customer. The male boss came out and scold me don’t create problems and warming me twice they will take out CCTV to check my food. I don’t know why they can treat customers like that. Very rude and poor service.
To be honest, their food is not good enough and price is not low. Additional this rude service, i won’t come back and will...
Read moreIt's the best dry chili pan mee, ever tasted !!. The soup given is also good, very light ...ask for the big bowl. The meat addition is either pork , fish cake & fish ball. NO chicken at all.
There seem to have many more varieties of pan mee and other noodle based, pan mee soup is good too. They also serve curry mee.
The cili padi , will not be at the table, need to ask, then they will serve. The green sambal belacan is power. The used to serbe pickled green chilly, no more.
Quite unusual to see Indian Chef preparing authentic Chinese dish. The quality remains topmost, guess they are well trained.
The ambience is hawker stall, no toilet, relatively clean for Malaysian standard.
Price : RM7.50 per bowl serving, RM1 per pack of...
