Simply Thai @ Happy Garden: A Hidden Gem Worth Unearthing
Finding Simply Thai at Happy Garden might require a bit of detective work – nestled in the car park level LG2. But trust me, this hidden gem is worth the extra effort! While the location might be a bit understated, the service, atmosphere, and delicious food are anything but.
Underrated Deliciousness:
Simply Thai offers a delightful dining experience that feels under-appreciated. The food is full of flavor, a true testament to authentic Thai cuisine. The highlight of my meal was the crab meat fried rice – bursting with savory goodness in every bite.
A Balancing Act:
One dish that could use a slight tweak was the papaya salad with seafood. While enjoyable, it could have benefited from a touch more sourness to achieve that classic Thai balance of sweet, salty, spicy, and sour.
Must-Try Crispy Kangkung:
Don't miss the crispy kangkung with Thai sauce! This unique dish is a must-order for any vegetable lover. The kangkung (water spinach) is cooked to crispy perfection and tossed in a flavorful Thai sauce that's both sweet and slightly spicy.
Pleasant Ambiance and Service:
The restaurant itself boasts a pleasant ambiance, perfect for a relaxed and enjoyable meal. The service was fast and friendly, adding to the overall positive experience.
Overall:
Simply Thai is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. Sure, it might be a bit off the beaten path, but the delicious food, charming atmosphere, and friendly service make it a worthwhile adventure. Just be sure to bring your sense of exploration and a...
Read moreCame for dinner and took our table at the air-condition section. They have a no a/c section upon the entrance to this restaurant. We ordered :-
a) VG04 -Pad Pak Boong Fai Daeng/Stir fry kangkung Thai style @ RM15.90/s - mostly stems. taste so so only. b) M10-Pad Kra-Prao Moo Krob/Stir fry crispy pork in hot basil leaves @RM21.90/s - nothing outstanding. pork belly is hard and tough! Can hardly tastes the holy basil! c) SEA19-Pla Muk Tod Daed Deiyoe/Stir-fry Kapah with holy basil @ RM17.90/s - this is no Kapah. thin shelled lala to be precise! the lalas are tiny so there ain't much flesh to savor. Not recommended! d) Q1-Pia Paow/Grilled Tilapia with salt @ RM49.90 - The only dish we truly enjoyed. Would have be perfect if they butterflied the fish to grille instead of grilling it flat on one side coz the other side of the fish is totally un-grilled with the skin sticking to the flesh. The dipping sauce is simply mouth smacking! e) SP5-Tom yam Nam Sai Kai/clear tom yam chicken soup @RM18.90/s - Simple yet flavorful and addictive! f) Thai Jasmine rice @ RM8/pot g) Iced Thai Milk Tea @ RM6.90 - Sweet in a nice way! h) Hot Thai Milk Tea @ RM5.90 i) Coca-Cola @ RM3.50 j) 10%+6% in this establishment
I feel the cooking style here leaned more to the Malaysian tastes instead of authentic Thai. Nothing WOW but ok only. All stir-fry dishes lacked wok hei and the price is slightly on the high side. Ventilation is bad. We smelled like...

I came here with colleagues few years ago & try out the menu with the typical tomyam , pandas chicken, glass noodles salad, steam fish etc. It wasn’t a pleasure experience as the taste was off.
Recently, I tried the stir Fried pork with basil leaves (common dish Known as Pad Kra Paw Moo in Thailand) to cure craving and it was nearby. Giving it a shot. Well, it was a wrong choice. I’ll tell you why.
Minced pork are not fresh. (it has smell despite having thick soy sauce and chili trying to cover up) I had bought frozen minced pork and cook this in the past, it doesn’t have this kind of smell. It is either put in room temperature for too long or just getting some almost turn bad meat.
Wrong basil leaves - u don’t use the 九层塔 leave, but the holy basil 🌿 九层塔 will ruin the whole dish fragrance.
Why try to bulk up and put onion? It makes the dish onion sweet and turn to some Weird taste. The original has only minced meat, garlic, holy basil leaves and chili
Something weird about your soy sauce. Not sure why but it turn the dish to one kind of unpleasant taste.
Should not put as “Thai restaurant” but Chinese-Thai Fusion restaurant instead. If you want to claim as the authentic Thai restaurant, hire a proper chef or at least get the recipe right.
Despite MCO, the restaurant was still standing which is applaudable. I really hope that the restaurant will improve by...
