I had some errands to run over in Setiawangsa, so I thought it was the perfect excuse to finally check out this little hotdog stall that’s been all over my social media lately. Time to see if these handcrafted hotdogs live up to the hype!
We went for a classic combo: a cheesy beef hotdog, a basic chicken hotdog, fries, and a couple of peach teas to wash it all down. The stall wasn’t too hard to find, with plenty of parking nearby. Seating, though, is limited since it’s just a cozy setup by the roadside — simple stools and tables, but that gave it a nice, casual vibe.
The place was buzzing with people, but we only had to wait about 15 minutes to get our order, which was pretty impressive. When the food arrived, the hotdogs looked amazing! The cheesy beef was smothered in cheese, while the chicken hotdog came with mustard and caramelized onions — all the right touches, visually speaking.
I took that first big bite with high hopes, but I have to admit, the flavour didn’t quite hit the mark. Not bad, but it felt like it was missing something. The sausage itself was underseasoned, lacking that bold, distinct sausage taste I was expecting. The cheese was nice and creamy, but it felt like there was an extra flavour just waiting to come through that never quite did. And the caramelized onions? They were alright but not as sweet or rich as I’d hoped. The other shortfall was the fries, not crispy and soft inside.
The buns is nice though, so this guys know what makes a good hotdog but I guess need some more improvements.
All in all, a decent first try but room for a little improvement....
Read moreTried out Sober Bites Setiawangsa recently and overall it was a pretty good experience. We ordered the Eggy and Streak along with the Hot and Spicy Shaker Fries. The portions were decent and the sauces were really good—definitely added a nice kick to the meal.
The shaker fries were crispy, well-seasoned, and had just the right amount of heat. Really enjoyed those! As for the Eggy and Streak, it was a fun combo and something different from the usual fast food-style meals.
The only thing that didn’t quite hit the mark for me was the sausage—it had a bit of a funky taste that I couldn’t really get into. Might just be a personal preference though, as everything else was solid.
Service-wise, everything was super quick and smooth, which I appreciated. Staff were polite and our food came out without much wait, even though the place was fairly busy.
All in all, not bad at all and I’d definitely come back to try some of the other menu items. Worth a visit if you’re in the area and craving...
Read moreHaving saw the YDPA paying a visit piqued by curiosity, and these sausages do not disappoint. They were juicy, the toppings were mixed to perfection. Padkrapow had the eye opening flavour, cheesy is a bit on the salty side, but brings out the caramelised onions well, and eggy was surprisingly refreshing. If I had to nitpick, it would be that I’d pay extra for a extra long sausage, I don’t like my last bite being more bun than sausage and granted while you eat the sausage moving is expected, do note these sausages are by no means short, they are exact, which makes gobbling a bit extra on a bite makes them end up shorter. One final thought: well done on the word play turning sausage on bun (abbreviated as SOB) into sausage on bun exquisite recipe (abbreviated as SOBER), turning something on the foul side of the language into something that fits the halal-ness. Big thumbs up and keep...
