The name 'Zum Stammtische' carries a charming meaning, signifying a place where regulars and friends gather to share great food and camaraderie. This name sets the stage for a dining experience that lives up to its inviting essence.
Stepping inside, one is immediately struck by the beautifully designed interior, which exudes a sense of warmth and welcome. It's the kind of ambiance that makes you feel right at home.
The service staff at Zum Stammtische are the epitome of professionalism and friendliness. Their warm and courteous approach adds to the overall pleasant dining experience.
One cannot visit this establishment without trying 'The Pork Knuckle,' and it certainly lives up to its reputation. This behemoth of a roasted pork knuckle arrives with an array of side dishes, including fermented cabbage and fried potatoes. The sheer size of it prompted the waiter to offer assistance in cutting it into more manageable bites.
The first bite is a revelation. The skin achieves a crispy perfection that gives way to an explosion of flavor, while the meat inside remains tender and juicy. The side dishes complement the pork knuckle impeccably, creating a symphony of flavors that work harmoniously together.
To accompany the meal, I opted for chamomile lemongrass tea, which was served warm and proved to be a lovely choice.
In summary, dining at Zum Stammtische is a truly satisfying and worthwhile experience. It's a place where quality meets quantity, and each dish is a testament to the culinary mastery at work.
However, do take note that finding street parking might be a challenge, so I recommend parking at Republik Damansara Heights, where ample parking is available. Just exercise caution in the narrow...
Read moreI wish we could be as positive as some of the other reviews, alas we can not. I am a retired German chef, but now living, and enjoying, my retirement years in Thailand. We frequently travel to Kuala Lumpur and like to try different restaurants on our visits. This time we also wanted to try some German cuisine, with which I am, obviously, very familiar. So we went to "Stammtisch" and ordered some dishes that are common in the southern parts of Germany, where I am from. This included Maultaschen, Spaetzle, Blaukraut, Gulasch etc.... The so called Maultaschen were some kind of weird pork mince meatball Ravioli, which had NOTHING to do with Maultaschen, and the pasta was too thick and undercooked, almost raw on the folds.....the Spaetzle weren't actually Spaetzle, but "Knoepfle" (a distinction ANY German chef SHOULD know), the Blaukraut had much to much vinegar, was undercooked and the Gulasch was dry and overcooked......my inquiry to the waitress if the chef was actually from Germany (which I found hard to believe) was met with indifference and she said she didn't know.....? All in all a very unpleasant experience and I regret we wasted an evening on this...... Almost forgot to mention......hardly any of the advertised German Beers were actually...
Read moreTruth to be told, I have never gone to any German restaurant before ... German bar, yes - Brotzeit, Weissbrau, Bavarian Bierhaus - but a proper restaurant not really. I'd read good reviews on this German restaurant cum bar located in the affluent area of Damansara Heights and it was a quiet Sunday lunch that we had to confirm that they are really as good as featured.
◾Dunkel beer mussels RM35 - fresh mussels stewed with Dunkel beer, tomato and spices. We love this style of preparing mussels. ◾Leberkase RM38 - ham meatloaf with sunny side-up egg on top, German mustard, potato salad, garden salad, gherkin. For some reason, the meatloaf did not taste the way we expected it to be. ◾Bratdog/Hotwurst RM35 - jumbo bratwurst sausage with caramelised onion, cheddar cheese, and wholemeal hotdog bun. Generally a high end hotdog but better, bigger and tastier. ◾Pasta pork Bolognese RM32 - rich minced pork, mixed herbs and tomato based sauce. The two girls shared this plate and promptly finished everything.
If you look at the price, it is definitely on the high side. However, does the food justify the price? Probably.. but I still have to taste their other dishes such as pork ribs and...
