In my 2 day stay in Ipoh, I had a lot of eatery choices in the city, but this restaurant stood out because of the unique exterior and the fact that it's a Baba Nyonya restaurant. The menu itself has a little detail about the local history which is an interesting detail! The food here is very delicious. The Cantonese Kuey Tiaw is very soupy and rich with flavour from the prawn and vegetables. The broth itself is clean and very rich with an umami sensation and the noodles are chewy and soft! The buttermilk chicken has a very unique and delicate taste compared to other buttermilk chicken dishes at other restaurants in Ipoh and the chicken is slightly crispy and tender which is perfect with buttermilk chicken. The two dishes are perfect with a cup of hot Chinese Tea on a cold Ipoh evening! The service here is very warm and quick and the staff are very friendly. The atmosphere is very calm and it makes you feel like you are at home with good food (with the exception of Ipoh traffic). Overall, my first impressions were not really high but after my meal, I was absolutely awestruck. It is overall one of Ipoh's must try...
Read moreThe foods were nice and delicious except for their speciality for the asam curry. It was just average and the taste wasn't deep enough. The main problem is the portion, it is just way too small for that pricing (17-25rm) depends. Not only that, they charged us 30rm+ for a jug of watermelon juice while we thinking it is just the same price as other juices (18 for tangerine juice). Only confirm with the restaurant that a jug was four cups so they charged us 4 cups that price?? Which is like actually insane, great service but never again.
Edit : Thank you very much for replying to my review but the main thing wasn't the size (small). It is the economic incentive on the value of paying while it is not equal to the portion. Yes indeed, it was delicious but my reviews only serve as a reference to others. About the watermelon juice, as per my last comment mentioned, we confirmed with the worker after the bills payment so we are 100% not informed about the pricing of it at all...
Read moreI can easily say that I'm probably a fan of Baba & Nyonya food. But trying to find Baba & Nyonya restaurant is quite hard in Klang Valley. So anytime there's a chance for me to check out any of it in other states, I usually take my chances.
We decided to order Assam Curry Fish, Butter Squid, and Kailan. The food portions are quite plentiful. So much so that we didn't manage to finish a few of our dishes like the kailan. The food is pretty good, taste-wise.
In terms of the overall mood of the place, I like it. The esthetics of the place and the interior design is what caught my eyes the most. The old kampung style of interior with its kekisi (grilles) type of windows, just added to the authenticity of the place.
The place is also quite spacious. So it's very suitable for big family eatings, or in my case just a company of 2. All in all, a very good restaurant. And worth the money.
Would definitely recommend the place to...
