Has been eating at this Bah Kut Teh Restaurant during the 1980, 1990, 2000, 2010 and this year 2024 was the first time after so many years absence. All these years as a Bah Kut Teh enthusiasm, travelling all over the places that claimed to serve the best Bah Kut Teh, had tasted so many types of different cooking methods using different ingredients, whether it's Teow Chew Style, Black Pepper Style, White Pepper Style, Stronger Herbal Tastes, lesser Herbal Tastes, Pork Bone Soup, Seafood Style, Sweet or Salty and many other kinds of cooking style. I always find the best Bah Kut Teh were from those with smaller shops, not really famous, known only to the locals and using Fresh Herbs. Everyone knows the areas around Klang are where the most Bah Kut Teh Restaurant are located and available at almost every corner of it. Most were passed down from their great generations to the newer ones. There's where the changes begin: - the taste begins to change, cooking style begins to change, ingredients change, management change, marketing methods begin to change (faster turnaround of customers) foresaking the very important aspect of their business aim which is to provide the best Bah Kut Teh to their customers. One may see some of the well known famous Bah Kut Teh Restaurant in Klang loses quite a number of their business to other restaurants just because of some simplified change for convenient sake. As for Heng Kee Bah Kut Teh, their taste changed from Stronger Herbal Tastes to Milder Herbal Tastes and now to lesser Herbal Tastes + Soup is a little bit Salty. Surprisingly the crowd is still there. My opinions are: - their Bah Kut Teh has lesser Herbal Tastes, Meat is not tender, Meat is quite hard (probably boiled separately from the Bah Kut Teh ingredients), acceptable but definitely not a pure Bah Kut Teh instead it tastes more...
Read moreThis was my first time trying out Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh. This came recommended as it has been operating here for years. By PJ/ KL style bak kut teh, this is a pretty decent place eventhough my personal preference is always for something stronger in herbal flavours.
Notable highlights and tips: Patrons can choose to sit indoors or outdoors. Between the two, outdoors felt a tad bit cooler and they have fans. They have sinks that you could wash your hands. The hot water refill for tea is self service and located near the entrance Staff will take your order and deliver to the table too. Staff are pretty good in guiding and made sure we didn't over order. They do serve an extra portion of soup with the bak kut teh order. Raw garlic and fresh chilli available at each table. Light soya sauce also provided. The braised mushroom was tasty and tender. The mushrooms used were very meaty in texture and braised through very well. The sauce is not the same taste as the bak kut teh soup, which makes it a different dish altogether on its own. The fried fritters and tau fu bok is a nice addition to the bak kut teh. The meat for the bak kut teh was tender and I would recommend the pork shoulders as it is a nicer cut. Somehow tastier, more tender and like a finer texture. Payment can be by cash, card or e-payment. They collect the payment at the table. I liked that i could choose the type of tea preferred from the few options they had.
The slight drawbacks for me: They charge extra for every bowl of soup. Though, it is still nominal in amount. The place can get really hot as there is no air conditioning. Lots of flies around when we were having our meal. So had to be vigilant that they do not land on our food.
Overall, for those who like KL/ PJ style bak kut teh, this is a good place...

Here’s my updated review of this Bak Kut Teh (BKT) restaurant as of 2022:
🌤 Atmosphere: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) The place has been renovated, and it’s a noticeable improvement. They’ve added proper lighting and set up a queue table waiting system, making the experience more organized. While there’s no air-conditioning, the ceiling fans do a decent job of keeping the space cool. The cool white lighting adds a clean, simple vibe.
🍴 Food: ★★★☆☆ (4/5) For Petaling Jaya standards, their BKT is among the better options. The meat is usually tender and soft, but there are occasional inconsistencies where it can be tough. However, it’s still not comparable to the BKT you’d find in Klang. The soup has a sweet flavor, but it can feel overly sweet if you drink too much. They charge extra for additional soup, and the portions are served in small bowls by default.
🍽 Service: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) The service can be a bit frustrating due to the limited number of waiters. If you need to add to your order, you might find yourself walking over to them rather than being attended to promptly.
🚗 Parking: ★★☆☆☆ (2/5) Finding parking is a challenge here. The closer you try to park to the shop, the harder it gets. Walking a bit further away might increase your chances of finding a spot.
💰 Price: ★★★☆☆ (3/5) The pricing is fair—neither cheap nor expensive. It’s reasonable for the quality and portion size.
🏠 Will I Return? If I’m in Petaling Jaya and craving BKT, I wouldn’t mind coming back. While it’s not my top choice, it’s a solid option for the area.
