Pros: Outstanding service and hospitality from Emu, a young lady from Bangladesh, and Tanesh, who is senior there, equally friendly, attentive intially taking our order after much talks on many items Cozy ambience and lovely paintings everywhere
Cons: The overall food quality is unbelivably poor, for example, every single curry dishes we order contain a huge amount of oil at the bottom, the sheer oil tasted like just cheap cooking oil or palm oil, not ghee or anything like clarified butter or even coconut oil! I guess the cook pour loads of oil to deep fry the needed condiments and spices. But way too much! So thirsty after the meal. the overall price is very high side that's not matching the food quality and plating at all. Two of the three curry dishes were served in melamine dishware that shouldn't be used to serve piping hot dish like curry, not only it gives super cheap looking in the look, but also, it's not even microwave safe, that said, I was super surprised at serving the melamine for two curry dishes, that's chettinadu chicken and meen kuzhambu(fish curry) I thought they had scooped some mamak curry lookalikes from a southern Indian mamak restaurant, which even has better quality at a very affordably low price tag. Worse, the fish fillet(ikan tengri when asked upon order)was neither fresh, nor really fillet, that has a quite amount of tiny bones hidden, and battered in flour, 4 tiny pieces in max that's a whooping RM30, served in melamine bowl? All the curry gravy was so oily and it was the same as the one in chettinadu chicken gravy, nothing house special unlike what it says in the menu, that's so misleading. Very shame! We felt cheated after all, but what made us upset was we devoured the food to fill up our stomach since we were then very hungry when we got there. Again, since being healthy food conscious, the curry is far from healthy or nutritious!
The only dishes we enjoyed were the mutton biriyani was flavorful and nice with boneless mutton meat, though rice texture is kinda dampened like keep it heated for a long time, not like freshly cook biriyani rice that is much fluffier, less oily in the look. Of course we love the freshly made chapati as well. Nothing wrong falls! Last, not least, the dessert payes is a sheer surprise , which was served for free from Emu, who asked what desserts we would like to have, at that point we really didn't want anything more from the restaurant for any more spending, but we felt pressured to order one or two since she asked us in smiles, but the problem was we couldn't choose either kulfi or a new dessert item like payes, and finally we decidedly for an all time safe one like kulfi, and then she kindly offered us a payes for free to taste. Thankfully we were really glad that the payes was so delicious and that sort of healed our broken heart and saved us to escape from the oil infused mouth and breath. The delicious payes is like kheer, sweet rice pudding that's has some sago or some sort of rice, very sweet, but refreshing! The kulfi, on the other hand, it's a huge disappointment due to the fact that it has no such unique gritty and grainy texture from the Indian handmade icecream is famous for, it's just ice form frozen roughly 3 to 4 cm diameter with almond flavored infused.
Spent around rm140 for such horribly oily curry dishes, that shouldn't be served to anyone. The price simply doesn't justify the quality at all!🤢 After all, tinking of such mediocre quality food there, it is not worth trying again for us or recommending to anyone who really loves authentic Indian food as...
Read moreWhen we arrived there wasn't even a thermometer to check our temperature.
From the receipt picture perhaps you can zoom in and see food particles that are perhaps still on my finger and I am so unhappy with the experience eating here and I genuinely wished it closed down, as this restaurant is an embarrassment to Indian food culture.
I am not a picky eater, and I usually support Indian cuisines regardless if I find them below my satisfaction, for the simple reason that I want them to improve, however this restaurant is so neglected by the owners that I think it's a shell of what it used to be.
After we were left waiting at the door for several minutes, a bangla worker asked us to seat ourselves, at that point I shouldn't have even bothered eating here, but I wanted to give this place a chance. When I pulled my chair, it was an old shaky wooden chair, so I had to try 3 chairs before I can sit. Then that bangla worker was trying to rush us to make an order, but it hasn't even been 2 minutes that we sat down. So we were forced to quickly make an order and I choose something safe that they would find a hard time to mess up like Butter chicken, Palak paneer and Egg curry.
After I made my order I realized how dirty the kitchen was when I caught a glimpse of it while going to the toilet. My heart really sank and when the food came, it was so bad... It's watery tasteless food that I cant understand how they could have messed up. It reminded me of ready made masala pastes that we can cheaply buy, and I guess that's probably what went onto our plates.
In addition all our breads, including the chapati and the "kulcha" were undercook with black squares on the surface. My guess is they were not cooked with a tawa, instead cooked with a wire mesh of some sort. The masala tea that came to us, tasted funny with the ready made powder at the bottom that they forgot to stir.
In my receipt, they charged me for a Phulka when in reality I ordered Capati with masala kulcha, it seems like they want to squeeze as much money out of you as possible before you leave, because they know that they will never get anything beyond a first time visit, as evident from their laughable service charge. Why? Why am I being charged a service charge when I have to sit myself, not receive water, no thermometer, get my order wrong, have a dirty kitchen, only have 2 bangla waiters and treat me badly?
I also noticed before writing this review that a lot of people gave this restaurant a high rating, and I can understand why. It's because low quality Indian restaurants are everywhere, and people don't know what quality actually looks, feels and taste like. Give Sagar Restaurant a try, or even Gem Restaurant, they are not perfect, but at least their food is good.
People should not think that Indian food is the trash prepared by Malgudi. It is so embarrassing to Indian culture. And I notice that the owner is so defensive with people who give a negative review and deflect blame. For all these reasons, I suggest to you to just give a middle finger...
Read moreAn Unforgettable Dining and Event Experience
Last week, we had the pleasure of celebrating my sister’s birthday at this remarkable restaurant. I initially discovered the place through Google, where it had numerous glowing reviews. Though I was hesitant at first, I decided to visit a week before the event to sample a few dishes. I tried the Butter Masala Chicken, Butter Naan, Egg Podimas, and Mutton Perettal (a thick, flavorful gravy). Additionally, I ordered Fish Biryani for the first time, and to my surprise, it was even tastier than Chicken Biryani—something I never expected! Every dish exceeded my expectations. The mutton, in particular, was outstanding—its rich taste paired perfectly with the Butter Naan. That said, each dish had its own unique appeal, making the dining experience truly delightful.
It had been quite some time since I had a proper Indian meal at a restaurant due to concerns about quality and hygiene. However, this experience completely restored my confidence.
When we visited to check the venue, I was pleasantly surprised to find a spacious hall upstairs, accommodating 60 to 90 guests. The ambiance was warm and inviting, setting the perfect stage for a memorable celebration.
A special mention must be made of Mr. Babu, who went above and beyond in ensuring everything was flawlessly executed. He personally took care of the decorations, demonstrating both skill and dedication. His expertise in food combinations also helped us finalize the menu with ease.
On the day of the event, despite our initial nervousness about hosting our guests and ensuring the food met expectations, the restaurant once again proved its excellence. The food was exceptional, and I only regret not being able to enjoy more of it, as I was busy attending to our guests! Mr. Babu and his team's attentiveness was remarkable—he ensured food was refilled promptly without needing any reminders, managing everything as if it were his own event. That level of commitment is truly commendable.
To top it all off, the restaurant’s owner personally visited to oversee the event, ensuring everything ran smoothly. It’s rare to see such dedication, and I sincerely appreciated the gesture.
In short, this restaurant delivers on quality, hospitality, and overall experience. If you're considering dining here or hosting an event, I assure you—it’s worth every penny. You won’t regret it!
From the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for the delicious food...
