Tom Yum simmering in a wok is what Pim's & The Rama have up its sleeve to differentiate itself from the countless Thai restaurants out there.
It was quite a sight seeing a big wok stuffed with seafood in an organized way. The different shades of red, orange and yellow from the prawns, the duck eggs and the tomyum soup respectively tempt you to do away with your table manners.
Hold on. Before that display of colors, there was the best dish of the night - an unassuming stir fried kailan in dark green. It was crunchy and its deep flavor reminded me of salted fish stir fried with vegetables. So what does that make of the main star of the night, the seafood tom yum in a wok? A distant 3rd. The seafood is fresh and tastes superb. The soup is milky, sourish and sweet but lacked a bit of depth. The two cakes of MAMA instant noodle that was included in the wok did not taste like the usual MAMA tom yum noodle that I am used to whether in taste or in texture.
The first runner up was a deep fried prawn cake donut. They ran out of fish cake donut so it was prawn cake for everybody. The meat of the prawns are chopped up to make it into a donut shape and deep fried with a thin layer of batter. Unlike most Thai dishes where a lot of ingredients are added to create a complex flavor, here the chef lets the natural sweet flavor of the prawns shine. Needless to say the donuts were promptly finished just like the stir fried kailan.
In 4th place belongs to the steamed siakap with lime and garlic. I thought it was just ok as the 'soup' was too sweet in my opinion. I did like its sourness that was contributed by the lime but the level of sweetness just did not do it for me. The fish is fresh though and that is the most important part of the dish.
And for the worst dish of the night belongs to the grilled pork neck. It was nothing like the pork neck that I am familiar and love from Thailand. It was not tender and it was just char siew to me. The taste is fine but it's certainly not the pork neck that is tender and slightly springy in the mouth.
In the end it's just 3 stars for Pim's & The Rama. The rice did not help as I expected the typical fragrant Thai rice but no, it was just normal rice. At RM355 with 6 drinks (one was just a glass of plain water), that's a bit short for the quality of the rice.
After dinner my brother and I decided to go for a cup of coffee at District 13 缔 and ended up having a very tasty plate of angel hair pasta. But that is...
Read moreI ordered garlic chicken with rice and egg. It cost Rm15 just for the meal. The chicken tasted more like sweet and sour chicken instead of garlic chicken.
My meal took 30 minutes to arrive and the waiter acted clumsy and confused when I asked him. And his simple response was "still cooking"
Bad service was overall here cauz even my friends orders were incomplete or late. This is because there are only 2 people waiting the tables and going in and out the kitchen.
When you have a space for 50 people, you need to have enough waiters/cooks to feed that 50 people. This is something this restaurant lacks and needs to improve. Atmosphere and environment was good though
I enjoyed my Honey Lemon Hot Tea. Ot was worth it, but again late and I had to remind the waiter cauz I think he forgot my order
My suggestions Please rename your shop to something else cauz this IS NOT AUTHENTIC THAI FOOD. Even the Tomyam is salty like they used MSG and it's flavoured. An authentic Thai restaurant would make Tomyam from fresh especially when it cost Rm27
Please consider hiring more COMPETENT staffs to deal with more customers efficiently
Please use a NOTEBOOK AND PEN to take down the orders. Everyone has memory flaws so I understand if you can't remember my order. That is why pens and papers were invented.
If hiring competent staffs and using pen and paper to take orders is off the menu, then consider shifting to qr code menu where we scan and place our orders without needing to bother the waiters
I AM A FOODIE AND I HAVE EXPECTATIONS AS A FOODIE ESPECIALLY FOR THE PRICE I PAY. SERVE AS YOU...
Read moreMy very first affair with Pim's started in Klang - don't think too much ya.. not a girl. Pim's is a Thai restaurant started that started in the busy port town of Selangor. The memory of having a pot full of seafood in tomyam broth still lingers on my mind.
The restaurant is easy to spot, visible from the main road of Jalan Bukit Mayang Emas - from Taman Mayang/Aman Syria heading towards Tropicana/Area Damansara. Spotting a big signage with spacious and modern interior
◾Pim's super tom yum seafood noodle - gotta love the sight of seafood such as clam, mussels, prawns, squid and soft shell crabs doused with the bright red/orange broth. The tomyam was done just right level of spiciness and sourness. ◾Pim's Super Instant Mama Noodle Tom Yum Bowl - the sonny requested for this dish, loved it so much that he polished the whole bowl by himself. Mix the egg yolk together with the broth for thicker texture... Satisfied to break the yolk yourself too! ◾Pad Thai - Thai version of our char kuey teow done right. ◾Thai BBQ Grilled pork neck - nobody does it better than the Thai... The meat was nicely grilled and charred with an equally nice fragrant and smokiness. My favourite dish of the day. ◾Thai style steamed squid with the sauce poured on the spot. ◾Signature Kai lan pork when one green plate was a norm. ◾Somtam - never judge a dish by its look.. behind the bright green colour it came with a fiery and spicy kick in the sauce.
