First time..Went there today to have a brunch with a friend after going to TSH.. it's kinda full and crowded but luckily there was an empty table for us. The shop has two area, one on the GF and there's one the upper deck.. Ordered the Big Breakfast Plate and a Chicken Tagine and two Latte.. Both meals are good..very recommended for a brunch..i like the strawberry jam complementing the well toasted sourdough bread.. the chicken and tomato blended just right as my friend enjoyed every single spoon.. Coffee is good as well though its more on the stronger side. (friend feedback but getting better as ice melts) as for is just right. I might guess the cafe is using OATSIDE brand..haha What more impress me and touched my heart is that they two lovely old Uncle and Auntie staff working.. ( i don't know maybe they are the owner) Uncle brewed my coffee by the way. I salute those fnb shops accepting senior citizen to join the company and work. I see they're enjoying what are they doing. But what made us worried is that their kitchen is on the second floor. So serving food and drinks are challenging especially they front of house using staircase upon serving.. although they seem very used to it already still careful ladies.. The shop ambience is nice as it is located enclosed by greens! Cafe is sunroof by the oxygen coming from the plants.. It helps the ceiling fans and the airflow fresher..
It was an overall very nice dine in experience.. We wish to comeback again when we visit...
Read moreWe came to the Tamarind Square to have breakfast with some of our college friends. Nasir, being our local contact had decided on this venue, but he found it difficult to identify the exact cafe for us to go to.
After a quick walkabout, we finally decided on the Botanist, mainly because most of the other preferred choices were still not opened for business, eventhough it was already 10:00 am!! And it was located quite centrally, making it more visible, and most importantly, it was already serving foods..
Our Party of 6 was of a slightly older generation. Hence ordering from a scanned menu on our phones didnt exactly come naturally for us. But the staffs insisted that they dont have a printed menu, and they couldnt take our orders from the table either. So, the wives had no choice but to go to the small enclosed counter to place our orders and made prior payments, before anything could take place...What a bummer for the Boomers...
Anyway, this episode didnt break our spirits, as the company was excellent. A gathering or reunion of former college graduates was always fun and exciting, and we ended up staying until 1:00 pm. By this time Nasir had to leave anyway to fetch his youngest daughter from school.
I wouldnt want to comment so much about the foods, though. Except that, "shaya tak shuka the shakshuka..." And my wife also complained that she was...
Read moreWe found this cafe on Google and decided to give it a try. It’s a bit hidden depending on where you park, but we managed to find our way. The food was excellent, and the café latte was good. We ordered eggs on toast… the toast had a nice crunch with butter spread, and the scrambled eggs were cooked just the way I like them. The portion was just right, not too big or too small.
The pricing was reasonable, and the ambience was pleasant. The service was also fast, but it felt rushed, especially when the staff immediately started clearing plates and cups as soon as we were done. If you’re looking for a place to chat over coffee, this might not be ideal unless you still have drinks on the table. It felt more like a “eat, drink, and leave immediately” experience, even though there were plenty of empty tables and it wasn’t a peak period.
When a cafe has a tree house concept, customers naturally expect to enjoy the ambience and view. Allowing an extra 15-20 minutes wouldn’t hurt, especially when there are many empty tables. The breakfast would have been even more enjoyable if they gave diners a bit more time to relax rather than rushing to clear the table. Ordering is done via a scanned menu, and you need to pay first before your order is sent to...
