A Hidden Sushi Gem in Puchong – Freshness & Quality at Its Best!
Oscar was incredibly helpful in recommending the freshest items on the menu, which made our decision-making so much easier—especially when it came to sushi.
We started with two types of oysters: the Hokkaido, which had a gamier flavor, and the standard juicy variety that was an absolute mouthful. Both were excellent in their own ways.
For our main course, we went with sashimi, which turned out to be the highlight of our lunch. It was a delicious mix of premium salmon cuts and belly, accompanied by a few slices of butterfish. We originally came for the salmon, but the white fish was a pleasant surprise—fresh and flavorful.
Oscar also presented us with a selection of wagyu cuts, and we chose the one with the most marbling. The wagyu skewer was an absolute steal and a must-try. We also ordered Unagi Don, Chicken Karaage Don, Ebiko handroll, and fried ebi—all of which were fresh and satisfying.
For dessert, we had peanut butter, peach, and chocolate mochi ice creams. We ordered them right after our meal, so the chocolate mochi was slightly hard and the mochi skin could have been a bit softer—but still a sweet way to end the meal.
A special mention goes to the fried salmon belly Oscar presented us with—it was fried to perfection, crispy without any oily aftertaste.
We're truly happy to have found a sushi spot so close to us. We’re definitely coming back soon and already have our next order planned. The Hokkaido sea urchin is also on the menu—and it's next on our list!
Highly recommended to all sushi lovers. Definitely a hidden...
Read moreLunch was at this little, unassuming Japanese restaurant in Puchong. Shop layout and deco was rather simple with the iconic popular Japanese figurine; the Maneki-neko cat believed to bring good fortune to businesses as their main theme of the place. Ordered bento sets of:
First off, super cosy vibes. Decor is simple and functional. The shop is located in an older commercial area in Puchong but the restaurant itself is a new addition; just operational in July 2022.
I had the beef teriyaki bento set and was pleasantly surprised by the portion. Beef was cooked to a perfect doneness—not too rare, yet not overly done. The teriyaki sauce is not overly sweet and it is slightly savoury which compliments the beef and rice very well.
The salad that came on the side were very generous. There's shredded cabbage, potato salad and edamame. Probably one of the few Japanese restaurants that actually provide such variety in a single bento set. The dressing wasn't to my liking—bit too vinegary, which made the potato salad taste off.
The bento set also came with chawanmushi and miso soup. I'm no huge fan of chawanmushi, but it did taste a little lacking though texture was nice and smooth. Miso soup is tastes like any other standard miso soup you'd get with a set meal. Both were served nice and hot.
Upon payment, the owner, Oscar, asked how was my meal and I was told he used to work in Japan which is where his recipes are from. He said the concept for this restaurant is healthy Japanese cooking, so there's no MSG used. He's also actively tweaking the menu offerings and making adjustments to the existing recipes. I'm rather excited to see what's changed in my next visit.
10/10 would recommend if you're in town and you're looking for a no-fuss...
