When it comes to the Yemeni food at Al-Saraya, it can only be described as a gastronomic revelation. Read moreSaraya is a real find. A distance out of KL one has to make the effort to come to Saraya. But this little bit of Yemen is a friendly unassuming place that serves some of the best Yemenese food outside the Middle East. I had an exceptionally delicious grilled fish. Spiced just right and grilled. The flesh remained moist and the bread malawah/khubz was served hot out of the oven. A spicy yogurt sauce accompanied the excellent grilled sea bass. This was more than adequate for two adults. We followed this with a wonderful Fatah (a bread and date dessert). My dining companion had made the decision to go shopping earlier to Arab House just up the road from the restaurant and bought some excellent Honey (watch out for glucose fakes available in the market). This was added to the Fatah which was absolutely delicious and eaten with the brilliant Yemenese tea steeped with cardamom and lightly sweetened. A real gem. Service was quick in the family roo. and we went at about 830pm and when done we came down and the rain had stopped and the restaurant had spilled out I to the parking lot. Sheesha patrons were smoking and coffee was being drunk while politics was being discussed. This Yemeni restaurant has a sad link to the 200 Yemeni refugee families living in the area. While given sanctuary in Malaysia this community reflects the sad state of affairs in their home country from where they have fled from. While we enjoy Saraya Restaurant and the charming Arab House there is the sadness of the troubled country that these wonderful enterprising people have had...
Read moreI ordered here mandy rice with chicken breast they call it (hanith chicken), the meal was very big, but I tasted better mandy at other Yemeni restaurants here in Malaysia. The chicken Kabsa that my friend ordered was way much better, the rice was full of taste and fluffy. We were allowed to refill the chilli salad (sahawik) for free and to fill free soup as well. I liked that you are able to have a look at what's happening inside from a small window where cooks hand the ready meals for waiters. The service was convenient and the order didn't take long time to be ready despite that the restaurant was full on a Wednesday at 18:30, I couldn't have a good idea about the price because my Yemeni friend insisted that he pay my meal. I didn't order a drink. It was a good...
