TOPARADIS — Restaurant in Isle Mauritius

We needed a bed for one night as we were moving into our apartment the day after arrival in Mauritius. AS luck would have it Cyclone Batsirai messed with all our plans. We nearly didn't make it on the day as flights were on/off/on/off/on. Aurore was so so sweet in my emails with her and assured me that our bed would be waiting for us 'when' we got there. Our flight went ahead on the day but delayed to ensure the worst effects of the cyclone had passed. Our keys were left as promised at security. On arrival at midnight our room was ready and waiting for two weary travellers. Our move to our apartment was delayed for four days and so we asked if we could continue our stay. The team were VERY accommodating. ||I can't say enough about the WHOLE team who made a huge effort to keep us happy, fed and entertained. The rooms are comfortable, serviceable and clean, the bathroom a ballroom (fairly newly renovated), ample packing space/cupboard.||Breakfast was great and well worth taking - who wants to run around when on holiday finding breakfast. Dinner was a real treat - I can highly recommend the chicken and prawn curry, the stuffed chicken, loved the prawn and ginger starter and tuna. The chef should be commended highly. ||The swimming pool was absolutely divine, super clean and sparkling.||Can I say again that the WHOLE TEAM were fantastic - they made us feel so welcome. And most spoke EXCELLENT English for those travellers who may feel unsure of French. ||After we moved into the apartment we went back for dinner again and it felt like coming home. ||Casual diners are welcomed (and are able to use the pool area) which I found most charming as it meant that there was a hustle and bustle and a good vibe all the time. ||Thank you to EVERYONE at Toparadis. We may not stay with you again because we have our own place BUT we WILL be back for your delightful food...

Just spent 2 weeks (14 nights here) fantastic location. 10 seconds to the beach (yes you have to cross the road - but honestly that is no hassle at all) The rooms are clean and have tv, wifi, fridge. We went with just the breakfast option as we like to eat out and at different places in the evening although we did eat lunch on our balcony every lunchtime (we walked the short distance to Winners supermarket everyday for a fresh baguette and cheese etc to keep costs down) the staff happily loaned us plates and cutlery to make our lunch. We ate at Toparadis a few times and the food was excellent and varied (when we were too tired to stroll to the other local restaurants). I struggle to see how others have rated this 1 star - they must be used to staying in 5 star hotels and expect the same from Toparadis which is graded 3 star, I would personally grade it as 4 star compared with other places we have stayed in the world. I have also read criticism of the manageress - the truth is she speaks very little English (by her own admission) but tries very hard to understand and when you do need anything she is amazingly helpful. Siamo appena rientrati dal nostro viaggio a Mauritius e abbiamo trascorso sei notti presso questa struttura. Abbiamo pagato un bel po' e sinceramente , per il prezzo proposto, mi aspettavo di più. L'albergo , esteticamente parlando, è gradevole, tranquillo e ben inserito nel contesto in cui si trova. Tuttavia le contraddizioni hanno fatto presto ad emergere. Partiamo dalla camera. La stanza ( almeno la nostra) era angusta, totalmente priva di piani d'appoggio ( assente una scrivania, una sedia, un piano dove alloggiare le nostre valigie). Presenti solo un mini frigo, un letto ( queen size), due comodini, un armadio. Il bagno era abbastanza grande , ma anche quello privo di piani o anche di semplici ganci a parete per appendere gli asciugamani. Avevamo un balconcino con due poltroncine e un tavolino e lo stendino per la biancheria, vista parcheggio. In camera non è presente un telefono ( essenziale per chiamare la reception in caso di necessità, quando paghi più di 100 euro a notte te lo aspetti) né un semplice cartellino da appendere dietro la porta per avvertire le cameriere che, magari, non è il momento di entrare per pulire. Chiaramente in più di un' occasione ci hanno bussato la mattina alle 8 per "buttarci" gentilmente fuori e rifare la stanza. Passiamo alla colazione. Inclusa. Su uno striminzito tavolino le uniche cose che trovavi immediatamente disponibili erano il pane ( solo bianco e di pessima qualità) due barattoli di marmellata, 4 barattolini più piccoli di qualche altra salsina, un contenitore con un dolce a fettine che non ho mai assaggiato e fine della storia. A richiesta ( inclusa una sola porzione se volevi bissare dovevi pagare) numero due uova , delle quali potevi scegliere la cottura, omelette, macedonia di frutta, succo di frutta e pancakes. Io ho ordinato i pancakes aspettandomi le belle frittelle american style che anneghi nel succo d'acero. Mi sono arrivate numero due crepes minuscole e bruciacchiate ( stavano in un piattino da dessert) che ho mangiato solo per fame. Poi , essendo nella patria della frutta tropicale, ho chiesto una macedonia di frutta, predisposta già a deliziarmi con papaya, mango e avocado. Nulla di tutto questo. Mi hanno portato una volta un bicchiere pieno per metà con pezzetti di mela, pera ed arancia ( a Mauritius?? Dove gli alberi di Papaya crescono pure in mezzo alle strade???)e un'altra volta un piattino-ino-ino con un triangolino di ananas acerba, 3 chicchi d'uva e un triangolino di anguria gialla. Per la cronaca: non mettono i bicchieri d'acqua sul tavolo e quando l'ho fatto notare mi è stato risposto ( con una nota beffarda ) che per la colazione non si mettono (??????). Non troverete bottiglie d'aqua dunque su quel tavolo striminzito col pane e le marmellate. Volete sapere come è andata a finire?? Mi portavo la colazione e l'acqua che compravo al supermercato, a cominciare dalla frutta locale, e la mangiavo lì perché non avevo un tavolo in camera. Le uniche cose che chiedevo erano le uova sode che spesso non erano ben cotte neanche quelle. Concludo col dire che, quando siamo arrivati un ragazzo molto gentile ci ha accolti spiegandoci un po' di cose e sottolineando che, seppur la colazione venisse servita alle 8 alle 10, qualora il giorno della partenza avessimo avuto bisogno di farla prima potevano venirci incontro. La sera prima del nostro rientro un altro ragazzo ci ha chiesto a che ora saremmo andati via. Saremmo partiti alle 8, risposi, chiedendo poi di poter fare colazione alle 7,50. Ho ancora davanti agli occhi la cuoca che scuote la testa indispettita perché per lei montare 10 minuti prima era fuori discussione. Voglio sottolineare che non abbiamo mai chiesto nulla, che uscivano la mattina e tornavamo la sera e che abbiamo provveduto noi stessi ad una colazione decente. Disponibilità e gentilezza mauritiana?? Non sempre è...
