I tried this restaurant last year. Place wasn't fancy but service and food was great. I gave 5 stars but I feel this restaurant must have changed owners or the cooks so I must update my review. I bragged about this restaurant and Today I took my family and friends. 7 people went in. There was only one table free in the restaurant. So we came to sit and all around the chairs on the floor was cookie crumbs everywhere. I kind of waited around to see if we came right after other customers left and someone will be coming to clean it soon. No one came or paid attention to us. We sat anyways and ordered our food. It took a long time for them to bring part of the orders for 3 people. We waited very long time for the other orders. I must admit the restaurant was full. We had to remind our server and even say if it is not coming we are leaving. Finally food arrived. I ordered the same soup I ordered before. This time after first sip I almost spit it out because it was so salty. Soup was the only thing I ordered because last time I loved it and it was plenty. Since I had nothing else to eat, my husband shared his plate with me. His food was also very salty. My daughter ordered cesar salad. The salad that was served was anything but a cesar salad. They dumped a bunch of frozen peas and carrots on top of bed of lettuce with slices of black olives. No one touched it. We informed the server that we were not happy with the food when we left the restaurant. WASTE OF MONEY AND TIME, PLUS I LEFT THE RESTAURANT HUNGRY. I WOULD NEVER GO THERE AGAIN AND I DON'T RECOMMEND...
Read morewe were very excited to dine here as it was recommended by one of the locals but were very disappointed. we sat upstairs on the deck and everything was great to start, our bartender served our drinks quickly (a margarita and a vodka soda). shortly after we arrived a family sat their two children under 5 years old I would say, at the bar and requested that the bartender play cartoons for their kids entertainment. the only issue was that the tv was connected to the entire restaurants speaker system and instead of the nice music atmosphere that was playing when we arrived, we started to listen to very loud childrens cartoons about “poop” and bowel movements. we had ordered our appetizer (the seafood tower) at this point so we spoke up to the server about the loud cartoons that couldn’t be ignored since they were playing all over the restaurant. at this time it was after 9pm and there were other people also sitting in the restaurant listening to the same tv channel. our server rudely and simply responded “they are children” and I said I understood but that it was a public restaurant and the experience was ruining the ambience for everyone there. she simply nodded and walked away. we canceled the second appetizer and asked for our check and left. the server simply said that was fine...
Read moreI've eaten at El Molinitos many a times with family and friends. It has been one of my go-to seafood restaurants on the malecon. I remember the restaurant in its earlier "palapa" days and now with their second story and front expansion, one would never believe El Molinitos was a palapa. Change is good. Besides the spacious open setting interior, there's also lots of parking in the back of the restaurant.
It was near closing time when we arrived. Ourselves and other customers (upstairs) were about the only ones Donna was our server. No complaints from my traveling group and I. However, wish Donna could have warned us about the albondigas soup taking longer than the other dishes. The group had already received their food; the soup finally arrived 30 minutes later.
El Molinitos has never disappointed, simply satisfied on each visit. I don't recall portioning being skimped. If anything, left-overs are taken home. To add, food price will not break your pocket book. Perhaps, one day, they will be able to offer taste-worthy and a larger selection of desserts.
Overall experience at El Molinitos was a good one. We plan to return the next time we visit La Paz.
