An executive chef's review of Folk
A beautifully decorated and cozy place to enjoy incredibly prepared dishes by Chef Isabela, one of the owners, that are well-balanced, seasoned and pair well together.
The Interior Furniture is designed and built by Thore the other owmer, who also Specializes in mixed drinks both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.
if you leave him to make your drink and put all of your trust in him, you will not be disappointed.
He created four Unique non-alcoholic drinks for us that not only paired well with each other, but went down smooth and refreshing, leaving you ready for more.
We tried a little bit of everything but the dishes that stand out in my mind that are creative and full of flavor, not to mention beautifully presented for your eyes and palet...
The bean salad with red beets oranges and Cactus served chilled, is a refreshing salad to start the meal, after a day of walking around in the town of Bernal.
The tuna tartar pairs perfectly with the bean salad above.
both are light and fresh with incredibly delicate and balanced flavors.
Both ravioli dishes are delicious, but if you are looking for a light touch, I recommend the raviolis prepared in a clear beef consomme.
The raviolis are made in-house by hand and are fluffy, Light, and full of flavor.
We tried a variety of incredible Tapas which were prepared with an inhouse rye bread which was soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside. You can't go wrong with any of the Tapas that they offer.
The pizzas were very enjoyable. I especially enjoyed the extremely thin crust which allows you to enjoy the toppings and the textures of the pizza to their fullest.
The service is prompt, efficient, and attentive, with a friendly and joyful atmosphere, to be enjoyed by all.
The prices for the quality and preparation of the meals are well within the market
Thor and Isabela have indeed created a jewel of a restaurant...
Read moreWhere do I begin with this gem of place? I originally came to Folk for Pizza Friday (I eat pizza every Friday) and even before I sat down I was in love with the ambiance. I ended up ordering onion rings as an appetizer and my partner and I agreed they were the best onion rings of our lives. While waiting for our pizza we noticed what appeared to be the owner finely tuning the ambient lighting and making sure everything was just right. I was really impressed with the attention to detail and service. The pizza came and my god, some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. And I’m from New York. The veggie pizza is for sure the best ever. They roast the veggies separately which keeps the pizza from getting soggy from the veggie water. Genius. Anyway we loved it so much we decided to go back the next day, both for lunch and dinner 😅. Everything we ordered was among the best we’ve ever had. And I was never a cocktail guy until visiting Folk but man, they make some amazing drinks. At dinner the second night, the owners, Thor and Isabel introduced themselves and we shared some drinks with them. It became clear that restaurants around the world should be using Folk as base standard for hospitality, attention to detail, and quality of food. It’s exactly how I want to feel at a place that is cooking my food. I want to feel at home and like the people actually care and want to be there. Thor and Isabel treat Folk like their baby and it really shows, from the incredible homemade decor to the custom music playlists to the perfectly tasting food and drinks on the table. A++++. I’m so glad to know this place and I look forward to returning to Bernal just...
Read moreI am not at all impressed with this place. I've been twice now, and I just can't see the value for what they charge. The food is ok - nothing spectacular. The fondue is just a plate of plain bread to dip in hot cheese - not worth it at all. The tapas are good, but the sausages could use some help with presentation - they looked downright sad next to a handful of potato wedges. The martinis come in half-size "glasses" but are quite expensive, and the wine selection is extremely limited if you want it by the glass, and what they did have by the glass wasn't even local! If you are in the middle of Queretaro wine country, at LEAST offer some local wines by the glass, and not some cheap Chilean house wine! The only bright spot of the dinner was the dessert, which was good.
Service was prompt but indifferent, and we were the only ones there upon arrival. Ambiance is nice, but the venue it dark and cavern-like. If you were sitting on a terrace with a view of the Peña de Bernal in the background, MAYBE I could understand the price point. But otherwise, this wasn't at all worth the money paid. Maybe stop here for some drinks at the bar (minus the wine) on your want to or from another place, but I won't recommend this restaurant otherwise. It's just bad value for the money and...
