DISCRIMINATION! I am a retired 60 year old and went with my wife and daughter. We have been living in Cancun for 16 years. I walk with a cane because of my stroke and my wife walks with crutches because of her leg problems. In order to give us our residents discount we showed them my Cancun driver's license, but they said they needed to see my IFE permanent residents card which I had in my car. Imagine asking two disabled older people to walk 15 minutes to the parking lot to get the permanent resident card and walk back to the restaurant! I even showed the manager my Chedraui card, Costco Mexico card, Mega Commercialis card but he refused to accept those. I told my wife I never saw any of the other Mexican people in the restaurant showing any identification other than their driver's license. If this is not discrimination, what is it??? I am a retired doctor and to be treated like this was embarrassing. The manager should have some common sense in making his own decision as to if he believes I am a resident with all the different identifications I showed him and not say repeatedly that "it's the requirement by administration." I also explained to the manager that a Cancun driver's license is only issued after they see that you are a permanent resident of Mexico, so asking for the IFE or INE card does not make any sense. Please have some common sense and decency on how you treat older...
Read moreThis place looks beautiful walking in. The staff are friendly. But everything was wrong with the food.
First, the menu is far too massive and poorly translated to allow for selection of a meal without frustration. Nearly every specialty roll was fried or contained mayo, a sign of neither authentic nor tasty sushi... but at least this enabled us to narrow things down a bit. When the food actually came, it was all disappointing. Edamame was covered in salt so course it was like crushing rocks in your mouth. The fish was cut quite poorly, often with the grain such that it was stringy when chewing and sometimes leaving on bits of skin (for fish where that is not appropriate) or bones. It was also often oddly shaped and undesirably thick. The raw scallops were bitter rather than sweet. The chirashi was served over cold rice instead of warm. Basic but significant mistakes.
I see this place is generally well-reviewed. Maybe this was an off-night. But almost everything was off from the kitchen, and we left without finishing half our meals. For the decor and price point, we were shocked at the...
Read moreMy wife and I were celebrating the last day of our 25th Anniversary when we chose Hiroma. Upon entering the young lady at the door was not very inviting. We sat in the patio where ALEXANDER was our waiter. From the start he was not very nice or attentive. He spent alot of time talking to the table next to us who were seated shortly after we were. We also noticed that their food was brought out ling before ours were. When he did come to our table he would just stand there awkardly and not say anything. When we made requests he never acknowledged us and would simply walk away. After eating our food, which was mediocre at best (wife's fried rice was scorched) he presented the bill. He had plenty to say as he wanted us to fill out a questionaire and explain to us how "tipping" worked. He then assumed that we were going to tip well below the customary rate of 15-20% by saying 50 pesos for an 1380 pesos bill was acceptable. After I paid the bill with a 15% tip I proceeded to tell him how his service was horrible and he was not a nice person. We will never visit Hiroma again. And they can...
