Perhaps it wasn’t the best moment or day to visit this restaurant. I was swayed by the positive reviews, and indeed, the place is great with its waterside patio, especially during sunset—an ideal spot. However, there was quite a long waiting time, but I think that might be normal. The white wine was warm, and the nacho chips seemed stale and old. I noticed that the salsa was served with two tables per serving, but we only got one serving of barbecue sauce. We ordered breaded shrimp and coconut shrimp, but were informed they were unavailable, so we settled for a goat cheese salad. However, the goat cheese was barely noticeable, and there was little dressing. We also ordered grilled salmon. The salmon arrived heavily grilled, but it was tasty. However, the vegetables were oversalted. There were supposed to be mashed potatoes, but they were missing, although I’m not entirely sure. Lastly, the bill included the shrimp we didn’t receive, but the staff removed it promptly. The service was very pleasant, helpful, and the staff were smiling throughout. Here at the end of the world we find treasure! Ambar is the perfect spot in Chetumal poised for your sunset dinner with a nice breeze, good food and friendly service. The menu was unusual and eclectic, I had a breaded caramel shrimp with sesame seeds that was slightly sweet and delicious. The shrimpies were plump and succulent! If you ate like this in the states it would cost a fortune.

Really cute place by the sea! Service is excellent, very friendly and helpful workers. There was a few problems and mixups with the food, but they were quick to fix the mistakes and apologised for any inconveniences. We went there both before and after going on the boat to Belize, because we really liked the vibe of the restaurant and the friendly staff. Music was pleasant and not too loud.
