Papas & Beer Ensenada — Restaurant in Ensenada

This place discriminates against people whom they perceive as being foreigners. They have 2 menus-- the one in English is handed out to those who they perceive as being from the United States, and another one in Spanish that they hand out to those they think are not from the United States. My boyfriend and I walked in, asked for a menu, but never got one. The waiter came back and told us that they had a "parrillada special" for 2 people that was $35. I thought it was quite pricy but my boyfriend wanted to try it so we went ahead and preserved it. We still wanted to see what else was on the menu so we asked another waiter to bring us a menu. When we finally got a menu, we saw that they had listed THE EXACT SAME PARRILLADA FOR 2 for $20. When I asked the first waiter about it, he said that they had different prices whenever cruise ships were in town. I then walked around the entire restaurant and saw that they selectively handed out menus depending on who the customer was-- Americans were given the more expensive menu in english, while Mexicans were given the cheaper menu in Spanish. I confronted the waiter again and he told me that they give out the more expensive menu to those whom were on the cruise ship. I told him we weren't on any of the cruises and that we were from San Diego. He asked me if I was sure I was from San Diego and I said I was. After arguing back and forth, he finally agreed to give us the meal for $20 instead of the $35 they charge the Americans who were on the cruise. This is not ok. How can they judge people based on the way they look? What does a person from a "cruise ship" look like? Why do they have different prices for different people? Discrimination is not ok and I hope no one else will ever allow themselves to be taken advantage of like this. This was not about the money, this was about the fact that they charge twice as much just based off the way people look in an attempt to try to...

Had a not so good experience as their server for the night club mango mango wanted to force us to pay for a table reserved for bottle service... which in this same exact place I had already had a problem with the tequila bottle being altered as the bottle had a broken seal and was previously opened. Topic for another day... We 5 of us, wanted a table close to stage and tried to force a bottle on us and we did not want to drink tequila bc of known fact that this place alters their bottles...so after few minutes and the server loosing customers for arguing w us he told us to buy the equivalent of beer instead of bottle...that's what we explained to him we would do and he wouldn't have it. Server finally gave in, understood us and after $1500 pesos and 3 buckets of 10 beers we enjoyed the music.

Most of the times servers trys to get one up on you and ur family because they assume your drunk or from the states and have money to blow. Sorry not this time I was here to be w family, to enjoy the music and on budget.

For the Gerente or Manager I'm not going to assume that you know about the bottles being altered but hopefully this will get to you in time and you do something of this problem; because even though your a business in Mexico, when the Mexican ppl start standing up to you for this problem you will have some...

This was my second visit to Papas and Beer in Ensenada. I've always heard this was an Ensenada must do! The 1st time I went, several years ago (well before covid, it was deaded than a door nail. This time the place was packed and hopping. The music was very loud so it was hard to communicate with the bar tender. We weren't given a menu and he just poured us shots of Patron. I was nervous to see what he would charge me for the 2 shots and it turned out to be $24. I'm from Vegas so $12 is not exactly reasonable but also not highway robbery. We watched a woman get played like a bongo drum and turned upside down. My 21 year old daughter wanted to leave before attention was turned to her. Apparently there is not a thing as over serving someone in Mexico because there were a lot of very drunk people in the bar still pounding shots. I'm amazed every one made it back to the boat on time. It was about a 20 minute walk back to the cruise ship. Overall it was a rowdy atmosphere which made my Murdock come out and we left after our $12...
