I've read the mixed reviews on this place. We didn't have the same experience that some of the negative reviews talked about. We had eaten recently but were literally drawn into the restaurant by the chickens roasting in the window over a wood fire.
We were quickly seated and offered beverages. We ordered two half chickens which were served with fries and tortillas. We ordered a mix of flour and corn tortillas that were being made fresh at the front of the shop. The corn tortillas were a blend of corn and flour and some of the best we've ever had. The flour tortillas were also nice, but didn't impress us the way the blended corn/flour did.
The chicken is moist, mildly seasoned, and tender throughout. Pack a tortilla with chicken, fries, rice, beans, and pico. Give it a small shake of salt and you have an excellent bite.
This is a nice, quiet reprieve from the hustling happening right on the street outside. We all used the bathroom and found it to be different than some of the negative reviews. I was worn but very clean. There was adequate toilet paper and paper towels.
In total, for the four of us, it was $42 with several Cokes. We enjoyed our meal here and I believe all of us would return if we found ourselves...
Read moreI had visited the restaurant many years prior which impressed me, and still does. Normally had hand made tortillas which in this subsequent visit I was informed since it was an off season timing, the lady was not there at the moment. I actually had remembered the place because of the hand/formed ( without being flattened with a pressed) tortillas being delicious. The current time chicken mole was a good choice suggested by the pleasant server, Yasmin, whom accommodated my special request to served me the specific posts of the chicken I had requested as opposed to their norm. I have since returned and the nicest lady making the hand made tortillas obliged my request. I...
Read moreWe asked a guy from the cruise transit van company what place had the best food and he said El Charro. We liked the rotisserie in the front. We ordered the rotisserie chicken and a chicken quesadilla. The chips for the salsa were like super thick, chalky and old, no flavor! Chicken had a nice char look, but zero flavor (no seaoning at all) and kind of chewy. The quesadilla was good, but very little chicken. Rice was descent, beans were gross really lardy or something off. Kept getting interrupted by travelling musicians while trying to eat. We barely ate more than a few bites. They should marinate the chicken...
