I’m so glad I discovered this taco stand! If you’re looking for places that locals eat, and you want to experience the REAL Mexico and magical state of Jalisco- Bicho Marisquiera should be at the top of your list. For reference- I visit PV every few months and each time I stay longer, make more local friends, and step a little further out of my comfort zone. I’m a solo world traveler and after 28 countries, I keep coming back to Jalisco again, and again… Please know that you’re not getting authentic experiences on the Malecón or at the Marina- regardless of what reviews tell you (tip- look at who writes them and what they like or complain about). Any meal over $10 or $12 USD is not local food. Also, any taco served with sour cream and a flour tortilla is NOT AUTHENTIC nor are frozen margs made with a pre-made mix- sorry (not sorry)! Food stands in Mexico are nothing to be afraid of, even if you don’t speak Spanish. They want to build successful, intergenerational businesses and tourists CAN make a huge difference in preserving the beautiful, unique culture here. These businesses support their local neighborhoods and have been doing this long before tourism exploded. They NEED your support to continue surviving along with Senor Frogs of the world, and they truly appreciate you stopping by. If you don’t know what to order- ask them! Tell them you want to try their best dish. This is what it’s all about in the real PV! Tip- learn to make a joke about your Spanish being bad. It’s a great ice breaker to kick off your interactions. Ok- like all the best stands who make one or two things (and make them very well) this spot specializes in fish. (Pescado y Camerones). It is battered fresh when you order it and is served up piping hot. They also hand press the tortillas. Lots of salsa options from mild to “oh my 🥵”. They had marlin, too. This place is oozing that melt in your mouth, cerebral goodness that just shouldn’t be missed. I’d like to point out mi nueva amiga, Delia, who collects orders and manages the stand. She is there everyday with her dog, Whisky and is a long time Cinco Diciembre resident. You can tell how much she impacts her community by the way she gives and receives love and respect to EVERYONE who passes by. She speaks fluent English and loves to hear about where you’re from and how you found the stand. Tell her you read Ashley’s review! I had 2 pescado tacos, 1 Camerones taco and a soda for $120 pesos. That’s about $7.05 USD. I was full the entire day. What was extra special about this stand is the way Delia connects with you. While I stuffed my face with this incredible food, Delia talked and ask questions and told me about the neighborhood. She makes great recommendations for local owned businesses should you want to find the best tortas, pozole etc. This is how you learn and explore- this is how you make great memories and find the real PV. Her son opened this stand. He is the kind of chef who ocean dives to source the food he serves. Enough said. I can’t stress enough how vital these businesses are to the local community and you’re really doing yourself a huge disservice and short changing your trip by not getting off malecón and the bigger restaurants. I know everyone likes different things on vacation- but try at least one off the beaten path spot! If you want to keep it a little fancy- after tacos, take a walk, kill some time, and around 8 pm hit el Calibri right down the street: a dark and sexy little bar tucked away from the entrance, with neon lights great music and raicilla- a liquor made from agave plant only in Jalisco state. Try the “Paradise” cocktail. It costs more than my tacos but wow- you won’t get that anywhere else. It’s easy to miss this spot on the street. You deserve to eat good food- and Delia and her team are waiting to serve it to you. Please support this incredible local business. Ps- I saw no menú posted. Don’t be deterred. Just do it- you deserve it! Cheers!

I recently moved to Colonia Cinco de Diciembre and was delighted to see a local food cart right across from me. Even more delighted when I tried their food and met the owner, Mario and his mom, Delia. Bicho (a term of endearment for a child in the dialect of El Salvador) serves up really creative and crave worthy offerings. So far I've tried many tacos: fried fish, fried shrimp, fried calamari and smoked marlin. The fried seafood is hand battered to order and cooked to a perfect crisp with exceptional seasoning. The tacos, also made to order, are not simply corn. Mario experiments with various flavored tacos: chocolate, turmeric and seaweed. Today, I tried the Aguachile Rojo and if I hadn't already lived across the street, I may have considered relocating just to be close to this crunchy tostada topped with the sweetest marinated shrimp and veggies. If you're in the area, come. If you're not, still come. Bicho is the real deal and run by delightful humans making me even happier that this is my new neighborhood!

The attention to detail and gourmet touches in the preparation elevate these dishes to another level. This is restaurant quality neo-Mexican cuisine at street food prices, and it shouldn't be missed. Modern twists like the turmeric or beet in the freshly pressed sourdough tortillas exemplify the influence of a skilled chef behind the menu. The pop of cumin seeds and homegrown dill in the lacey tempura-like batter are unexpected but exciting. Everything is made in-house (including the smoked marlin). The selection of small batch salsas amplify everything perfectly. Beyond the incredible food is even better hospitality. Very friendly and passionate service that feels like being fed at someone's home. It's a relatively new family-run business operating out of a cherished neighborhood stand that has been at the same spot for decades- I expect it will become a new local staple worthy of the historic venue. A must visit for any foodie visiting PV. Try the calamari taco!

Ate some incredibly delicious seafood tacos and met the owner, Delia. My friends and I stopped by after eating at another nearby fish taco spot, but I wanted to stop by here since I still wanted to satisfy my fried fish taco craving.

So glad we stopped by here to meet Delia and learn about the history of her neighborhood while we waited for the food to be prepared. I regret not saving more space to eat her amazing food. Both the fried fish and shrimp taco's a had were so good, that I had to force my friends to eat despite their cries of fullness. We all shared the same opinion of the food's incredible deliciousness, and I will carry this regret of not saving more space in my stomach with me to my grave. Did I mention that the taco's were only 35 pesos each? I wish I took some pictures of the food, but we honestly could not stop ourselves from eating it in a few seconds after it was prepared.

Please give this awesome place a try and I hope that you get a chance to speak with Delia!

Delia, if you see this, please share the photos on facebook! I no longer use facebook, but my friends do and we would all love to save the picture to savor...

Run, don’t walk to Bicho Marisquería — this hidden gem is next level.

Tucked away on the edge of Cinco de Diciembre in Puerto Vallarta, this unassuming taco stand serves up some of the most unforgettable tacos I’ve ever had. Think deep-fried sourdough tacos with gourmet tortillas made fresh to order — yes, you read that right.

We sampled the shrimp, calamari, and fish tacos on beetroot, plantain, and even chocolate tortillas. Every bite was mind-blowing, but the chocolate tortilla took top honors — slightly sweet, beautifully balanced, and totally unique.

Don’t miss the aguachile taco either — fresh shrimp and fish marinated with cucumber and onion in a vibrant, spicy citrus broth. If you're a ceviche lover, this will be your new obsession.

Bicho Marisquería is family-run by the incredibly talented Chef Mario, with his lovely mom Delia often by his side. They made us feel like part of their family from the moment we arrived.

This is exactly the kind of spot that makes Puerto Vallarta so special — a small, off-the-beaten-path treasure serving world-class food with...
