We stumbled upon this little corner Mexican restaurant while wandering through the neighborhood in a Sunday afternoon. The wonderful aromas wafting out into the street beckoned us inside. Our waitress seemed happy to practice her ingles on us, as we struggled with our español. The menu seemed somewhat familiar, however we were confused by the term pellizcadas, and struggled to even pronounce it. The restaurant takes the dish as it’s name. Best to describe them as a bit like an open face quesadilla, but the blue corn tortilla was thick and soft. The tortilla itself was delicious...enough so that I ordered three to take home. You have a choice of several meats and seasonings. I recommend the shredded pollo. The carne asada was flavorable but on the tough side, by comparison. A selection of 4 salsas is complimentary. A range of tacos, tostadas and quesadillas are also offered. Prices are inexpensive. This is a fun...

little hole in the wall place that's easy to walk past. really interesting selection of beautiful salsas. there was a beautiful looking, almost bright orange coloured one that was just nuclear hot. The owner was happy to walk by our coughing, crying faces, and mention he had a hotter one in the back, if we were interested. quick no, lol. there was a really delicious salsa verde, that was a very darkish brown (think chipotle looking) that was perhaps the best salsa we've ever had.

the tacos were really interesting, and very different from everything else around it. condiments included pickled veg, radishes, cucumbers as well as pico de gallia, and fresh lime wedges. you also got a bowl of fried onions, and about half a dozen crisp...

I wish we had been able to go here a few more times! This felt like authentic food, no frills and so it was a bit intimidating with my limited Spanish but the waitor spoke perfect English, was super friendly, quickly finding us a table and guiding us through the menu. Everything we had was so delicious. We had a couple of tacos, and the namesake of the restaurant (which means "pinched", and the edges of the tortilla in the signature dish are pinched together like pizza crust). It was very cheap too. The only thing I would suggest changing is the menu as some of the "stews" are just called "roast" which isn't very clear. They offered well known soft drinks like 7up as well as juices. We had the guava which...

I ended up renting an apartment pretty close to this place and it ended up being a regular go to. At first I ordered the tacos, then the quesadillas, but eventually fell in love with the pellizcadas. The blue corn was so tasty and didn’t get soggy like the tacos and quesadillas did. Maybe sogginess would not be a problem for the meat dishes, but I ordered the champignons or the Rajas con Queso. The super fun and BEST part of this place are the salsas, the charred onions and some of the other fresh made condiments... they even add some beans and fresh cilantro if you want. I’d leave feeling full for under 100 pesos each time. Probably some of the best and affordable Mexican food I’ve had.

Absolutely delicious with very affordable prices. The bill for six good sized tacos and two bottles of water was 140 pesos which is about $8 CAD. The chorizo and beef tongue tacos were my favorites. Everything is made fresh that day and simmers away in what appear to be traditional clay pots. The place was full of locals, which is always a good sign, and I can definitely see why. The service was fast and efficient and they put up with my lack of Spanish in a friendly way. We ended up going back a 2nd time near the end of our trip and were equally impressed.
