FIVE STARS FOR ROD! Amazing teacher, fun class, and would definitely recommend him. If I could, I would’ve given zero stars for the beginning of this experience. I booked a tour for four, but one of my party was having medical issues and wanted to cancel so she could rest. Unfortunately, we were 45mins past the 24hr deadline. I contacted viator and they said they had to honor the deadline but to ask the operator. I ask this place and they tell me they can’t cancel and to ask viator. Since they both said no, I decided not to cancel. The party member with the issues said she would do her best and push through. We arrive on time and during check in, the guy says we had canceled. I explain everything to him and he even pulls up the email I sent and the response saying they can’t cancel it. He brushes me off as if it’s my fault. I ask to speak to his boss and he says he doesn’t have one. I argue with him for about 15 minutes and he tells me they booked too many people for the tour based on my request to cancel which they denied. So we are at 9 people and the class only fits 8. I tell him, give me a refund, let us in the class (there was a small child and so we could’ve just squeezed), or I’ll call the cops to get me my money. I only threatened the cops because he was being rude even after he admitted it was their fault. He magically manifests a boss at this point on the phone. He offered to reschedule but we had yours booked the rest of our stay and weren’t coming back to the area. Viator was just as unhelpful by the way. By this time, it’s 30mins past the time we are supposed to start and this guy is holding up the rest of the participants experience. Only when THEY say they’re willing to squeeze does he agree to let us join the experience. But we end up having to start an hour late so they can set up for all 9 people. Such an annoying experience in the beginning, only for the actual class to be led by someone who was nice the entire time (Rod). Can’t say I’ll recommend them or booking through viator but my chocolate was delicious lol

2024-04. In the end, ChocoMuseo did not disappoint. The “Bean to Bar” experience started with… making a bar?!? But while we were filling the molds with molten chocolate, Elias began telling us of the history of chocolate making. But we wisely started with “to bar” so the molds could cool and solidify while we… Watched Elias roast raw fermented cacao beans in a skillet without a pause to the humorous and interesting delivery of MORE chocolate history… Then we shucked the hot, roasted beans while Elias continued with EVEN MORE chocolate facts. Cocoa tea was made, then consumed with a backdrop of interesting related banter. Then we ground the freshly shucked beans with a mortar and pestle making a paste, to the soothing chocolaty stories Elias shared. Next up? Warrior’s energy drink from fresh cacao paste while hearing about its military uses. Next, Elias continued to amaze us with even MORE historical factoids, as we processed even more paste, which was combined with a heated pot of milk and a family recipe for a rich, deep, chocolate milk treat that put every store-bought concoction to shame. Finally, From Bean to Bar complete. Yeah, you’ll like it too.

It was an OK experience but not really worth the price. The description makes it seem like you'll be doing more than what actually happens. You get chocolate that has already been melted, can pick some additions, and pour it in a mold. You get to unhusk some cacao beans and mush them into a paste. Other than that you're just listening. It was educational and interesting, but it didn't feel worth the $830 MXN. Also don't get there too early because they have you just standing around in the small space until everyone who has signed up arrives. They also only have 1 small bathroom for everyone to wash their hands which takes a good chunk of time if you have a large group, especially if you have to wait for someone else who is using the toilet first. Really an inefficient setup for a class which can get fairly large. If you're mobility impaired, realize you may have to go up two flights of stairs depending on which room your class will be held. Beautiful views, though.

It is truly with a heavy heart that I write this. But please read before you go. It’s lengthy because I want you to know it’s an actual experience and we’ve went every route we could to try and resolve, to no progress…

I’ve came here for years and seen it decline each time. Doing our best to support when we come… unfortunately, The cafe no longer exists, you’re immediately pressured to do the museum tour before you can even explain you’ve been there before and the cashier staff has increasingly got less knowledgeable.

Never the less- this was one of the first places we visited our first time to PV and we wanted to help.

But MOST importantly (and sadly) our last, and final time, we visited on May 25th, 2021; we were stolen from.

My wife and I visited that day. It was our last day of our trip and we had ran out of cash to use. Having been here before and trusting them, we unfortunately trusted them with our only other resource at the moment, my wife’s debit card! (I know… but again, we trusted)

This was the only moment that card had been pulled out that entire week. We handed the lady at the counter her card, it disappeared for 30 seconds (behind the counter) then popped up, plugged into the credit card machine. We didn’t think much about that 30 seconds and of course wasn’t going to make an accusation about it in the moment. WE SHOULD HAVE.

Being in Mexico it took about an hour for a transaction to populate on her online banking app. And wouldn’t you know it, AT THE EXACT SAME TIME as our Choco purchase, was a $250 transaction at a “merchant”. Literally the same minute, a $250 charge on a card that had knowingly only been used once the entire week.

We immediately cancelled the card, went through those steps, Visa confirmed the ip in which it was charged from, and we proceeded to attempt to contact ChocoMuseo… this was in MAY!!! Emails and initial calls have went unanswered and as of today, we were informed from Visa that since it was a debit card, not a credit card, it would not be covered.

I waited until August to write this review because I did NOT want to share this. But today confirmed that my wife was robbed by this organization and unfortunately will no longer be a treasure, but a black eye on our otherwise wonderful view of Puerto Vallarta.

Long story short, buy a candy bar from a gas station and save yourself...

We did the Bean to Bar (2 hour) tour here, and it was really interesting.

They let you choose if you want your chocolate bar to be dark or milk. They have some toppings/mix-ins to choose from, but the selection could have been a little bigger in my opinion. Then you choose a mold to make your chocolates.

At first, I thought the whole thing was going to be really anticlimactic because they just had us make our bars and weren't giving us any info or anything. It was kind of awkward, but then when we finished that part, the real tour started.

It was just my wife and I that ended up signing up for that time, so that was cool. After we make are bars at the beginning, they go in the fridge to chill. Then the teacher started off with the process of making chocolate from the bean right in front of us. He had tons of info to share with us about the history of chocolate, which was all very interesting to learn. He involved us in the process and we got to try a couple of things from different recipes along the way.

We learned cool stuff, and had a good time. They give you a 10% discount on whatever you want to buy in the shop downstairs, and they have some cool stuff with fair prices. We would recommend doing...
