I sat at a table, a couple minutes passed, and the server walked over and I asked for a margarita. It was served a few minutes later and was ok. The server was nowhere to be found and I was in a hurry, so I went to the bar to pay. The server suddenly appears with a card machine and asks me “how much do you want to tip?” I said um, like 10%. And he replied “really, that’s it?” I was shocked. First of all I don’t believe in tipping culture, and especially not when I sat and ordered one drink without even taking up any time. I told him that I don’t have to explain myself till him, but I lost my job and it’s my prerogative what I do with my money. He then went on to say that I shouldn’t come back to Mexico. And I said, don’t worry, it’s not like I choose to come to third world countries, this trip was already booked. He said that in Mexico they need money and that I should bring more money next time. I told him I was from South Africa and he knows nothing about my life, my status or anything of the like, so he should not be so rude as to ask me for money. He eventually kept quiet. They over charge for the drinks at this bar anyway, so there is no need to tip on top of that. Anyway, my biggest tip for this server is that white people were not placed on this planet to pay your way for you. Don’t judge a book by its cover. Work hard and earn your own money. No one owes you...
Read moreI knew the risk I took when I ordered a shrimp and a chicken taco at the airport, but thought how bad could tacos be in the great country of Mexico?
The answer is bad, very bad. As I kicked my feet up and sipped on a Pacifico while waiting for the rest of the bachelor party to arrive, I saw the waitress come from inside the airport with the tacos. Where could this kitchen possibly be located? Immediate regret.
These tortillas were forsure those Mission Flour Tortillas that were freshly heated up in a microwave shortly after the chicken and shrimp. My eternal optimism can get me into trouble at times.
In fairness, the shrimp taco was edible, but the chicken taco ehhhhh not so much. It was hot garbage as the kids say.
However, sitting in here sipping on a couple Pacificos while enjoying the Mexican air hitting my skin was a sort of spiritual experience. These little moments are what I love about traveling so much… I just shouldn't have got food. That's on me though, lowkey.

Read moreFor many years, i had a tradition of getting one Cadillac Margarita at this bar with whoever might be picking me up and traveling with me. I behave nicely and tip well, so the main bartender has always been friendly and she remembered how i liked my drink. However, the last two visits to this bar have not been good at all. The servers were inattentive, got orders wrong and didn’t apologize or offer to fix when it was pointed out, just shrugged. This time, they tried to add a 200 peso “service fee” that must be paid in cash?!! I asked if that was meant to be gratuity and was told it was separate, we could put the tip on the credit card slip. This, After not even bothering to clean table for us and spilling half a drink on me. I doubt...
