EL TERRIBLE JUAN is a quaint coffee house serving home-style breakfasts and high-quality coffee. Our party of three tried the desayuno inglés and the chilaquiles and both were excellent. The English breakfast comes with fried potatoes doused in chimichurri sauce, which is a nice twist on an old favorite. The cinnamon rolls are generously drizzled with a cream-cheese frosting that is not overly sweet. Talk about comfort food. Would definitely go back. This location is somewhat on the small side, so be prepared to wait 10 to 15 minutes for a seat, or more on weekends. This was my second stop of the day of coffee touring in Guadalajara. First, started off with a cappuccino, traditional (only one size) which is perfect. Espresso extraction was on point, perfectly froth milk and temperature. Ordered a cinnamon roll, liked the fact that it is not drenched in frosting. Texture of the cinnamon was perfect outside, soft inside with just the perfect amount of cinnamon. The chance to enjoy the flavor of the bread is a big plus for me. Upon my arrival at this establishment, my expectations were high, fueled by the buzz surrounding it. Regrettably, the experience fell short of its lofty reputation. The portions served were disproportionately heavy, considering the simplicity of the dishes offered. Regrettably, there was no trace of culinary comfort to be found in the fare presented before me. Furthermore, the coffee, a quintessential component of any worthwhile dining experience, remained lackluster, failing to deliver on its promise.
