While I've had less than great experiences with their carry out baked goods, breakfast was great. We had the small quiche and endless hot coffee. Someone was always going by with a fresh pot. It's a beautiful place to while away a morning and watch the people come and go. Seating is all outside and extends to the porch of the restaurant next door. There's also free wireless. I noticed several people working on their laptops.
My only reason for a 3 rather than 4-star rating is the to go bakery. The place is very popular, so your experience may vary from mine. The bread my husband picked up was excellent. Eclairs were okay - certainly filled to bursting with thick, pudding consistency filling - but it didn't have the eggy deliciousness of custard that I was expecting. The puff paste, however, was perfect. The croissants I've had have been overcooked on the bottom and not quite done inside. The baklava, while delicious, was incredibly expensive. I bought it before I was accustomed to pesos!
My recommendation - a resounding yes for a meal. Bakery to go - see what you think. As I said, your experience may...
Read moreWe moved to Ajijic from Savannah, GA about six weeks ago. Patisserie Français is around the corner from our new home. We can smell the fresh baked breads, croissants and pastries every morning. It's way too tempting. The owners and staff are friendly and very helpful. Everything is too delicious! We're going to our friends home for Comida this afternoon and promised to bring dessert, so I purchased 2 Lemon Tarts, 2 Raspberry Tarts, 2 Almond Tarts and 2 Napoleons. I also picked up a fresh baked seeded baguette still warm from the oven to accompany today's Comida, (but we ate the croissants with our coffee this morning). Be sure to get there early for the best selections. Lines may start to form after 8 AM and then you may have to wrestle someone for your...
Read moreLovely view and ambience. Great Service. The food experience varies from good to very good, could use better consistency. The chef likes to experiment with new concepts. Which I love, but within limits. At breakfast a friend ordered a side of bacon and received bacon ice cream. Interesting flavours, but she really just wanted bacon. My jugo verde was to die for delicious one week, the next was completely different and ho hum. Maybe a different chef that day? Perhaps the chef could judge his customer before experimenting on them. A young couple from the city would probably love the bacon ice cream, but an 86 year retiree...
