Our visit to Fonda La Catrina was such a delightful and authentic experience! From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed and promptly seated in a lovely room at a perfect table with a cozy atmosphere. The meal started beautifully with a freshly baked muffin and a traditional cafĂ© de olla, rich, spiced, and served in a charming handmade cup. It immediately set the tone for a comforting and thoughtful dining experience. Next came a refreshing juice and a vibrant plate of fresh fruit – including guava, pineapple, strawberries, raspberries, dragon fruit, and green apple, topped with sunflower seeds. Everything tasted incredibly fresh and balanced. Then came the main dish – delicious tacos on handmade blue corn tortillas, filled with crispy vegetables, flavorful toppings, and a creamy dipping sauce on the side. The flavors were bold, fresh, and absolutely satisfying. The team was attentive and kind, offering us their top recommendations and the specials of the day. You could tell they care deeply about the food and their guests. This was a truly authentic Mexican breakfast in a traditional fonda, just a short walk from both the Expiatory Church and the MUSA Museum in Guadalajara. We left happy, full, and grateful for such a special and delicious experience. Highly recommended!

We originally planned to have breakfast at another restaurant, but since the roads were closed on Sunday for cycling and running, we followed the crowd and ended up here — and it turned out to be a great choice. The setting was lovely, with a balcony-style layout and a warm Mexican charm. The menu had many options, and the staff were extremely friendly and patient, taking time to explain everything to us since we aren’t familiar with Spanish menus. We ordered two breakfast sets. Each came with a fresh juice, coffee, a main dish, some granola, and a fruit plate — a very generous and satisfying spread. The soups were also delicious. The only dish that felt a bit too mild was the cheese-and-cream dish; it was a bit plain since it was mostly just cheese and cream and nachos. Aside from that, everything was excellent. The food was good, the experience was great, and we’d happily return the next time we visit Guadalajara

This restaurant was by far the best breakfast of our one week stay in Guadalajara. The food quality and presentation is simply amazing. The breakfast starts with a spiced sweet coffee. Next is a sweetbread of choice followed by a plate of fresh fruit that's as flavorful as it is colorful, selected from various regional fruits. As you can see from the pictures the color of the food is matched by the ambiance of the space. We ordered the Del Vicario and the La Parca OtonĂ . Both of which were well-prepared and flavorful. They also provided various fresh fruit juices and a selection of garnishes. It's clear that they take great care in sourcing their ingredients. The staff were nice and patient with us considering we only knew a little Spanish. It was clear that they have a passion for serving amazing food. Highly recommended if you're staying in the area.
