Piped pop music far too LOUD making it impossible to have a conversation across the table without having to shout. The large flashing video screens depicting music bands interspersed with clips advertising various items of food on the menu were distracting . The latter lowered the atmosphere completely and was more like a discotheque with a constant thumping bass. The menu is extensive with a good variety of dishes with prices that quite high for Merida. I saw no evidence of a drinks menu with pricing but did observe the well stocked bar and high end liquor display cabinets. Once the party had placed the order it took at least an hour for the food to appear. I ordered a mineral water but was served with a beer. It took a while to have it changed. The good quality ribeye steak served on a wooden board was overdressed with salt to the point where it burned the throat. The board had even more salt across one corner and a small spoonful of garlic paste. Side dishes were an extra so I selected a potato assuming in its jacket. Sometime later a potato appeared that had been cut longways into thick chips with a serving of tomato sauce. The taste was awful in that it was as it the chips had been dipped and semi cooked in somewhat old fat leaving a granular residue at the back of my throat. The dessert menu looked good with generous portions being served to others in the party. Table service was good although the waiters could coordinate better amongst themselves to avoid duplicate questions. Others in our party seemed to enjoy themselves and the venue no doubt appeals to others with different tastes. Wonder if the management read these reviews as there are similar 1 star reviews from 3 years ago and...
Read moreExtensive and creative menu choices. Four of us dined here and started with 2 appetizers to share. One was a shrimp dish with a goat cheese dip, very tasty. The other was a marlin pate which was stellar! Really good. I enjoyed my steak filet, cooked just as I had asked. It had a cherry sauce which was delicious. Some of the steak choices do not have side dishes, so you must order something separately. We ordered 2 salads to share and they were huge. Definitely one salad could have fed all 4 of us. Two of the guests in our party weren't happy with their entrees. The salmon was covered with way too many capers making it extremely salty. The salmon was raw in the middle and only cooked just right on the outside.... so it was not all edible. The other guest's steak was ordered "medium" and it was just a step above rare. He took it home and finished cooking it the next day. Desserts were good, but another warning that they were unnecessarily large and wasteful. We took ours home too. They made the crepes right at the table, very creative and impressive. It needs to be said that the music in the restaurant was way too loud. We thought there was perhaps a dance floor there because it seemed as though it was a nightclub, although we think it was just a restaurant. It felt like it didn't know what it wanted to be. The decor was also beautiful making it a lovely restaurant to dine in. The service was top notch here. Very friendly...
Read moreMochomos is an excellent choice for a memorable evening out in Mérida! From the moment we were seated, the service was outstanding. The manager (captain) personally introduced himself, setting a warm and welcoming tone for the evening. Our server was incredibly attentive and ensured we had everything we needed.
The food was fantastic! The starters were the highlight of the meal – absolutely delicious. My chicken was perfectly cooked and flavorful, and the goat was a standout dish as well. The only slight miss was the pork belly, which was a bit dry, but everything else more than made up for it. Dessert was not only delicious but also generously portioned – so much so that we took some home to enjoy later.
This is a great spot for a date night, but it also appeared to be very kid-friendly, making it versatile for any occasion.
Overall, a solid 9/10 experience. Highly recommend Mochomos for a...
