Read moreIt had been a long time since I had an Indian curry and MORA did not disappoint at all. I was surprised to find to have the place to myself (delivery had stopped as the owner wasn't satisfied with the service offered, taking true pride in the food). I was ready to order a portion of pakora, but was advised some pieces would come as a courtesy. Great and friendly service and those pieces certainly whet my appetite. Mango lassi was well-flavoured, but it was the curry that hit the spot just right for me. Intensely spiced without being spicy, lovely tender pieces of chicken, supple moppable roti breads (my preference over rice most of the time). Honestly I was satisfied, but also impressed with the genuine flavours coming out of the kitchen, so I allowed myself to be tempted by the carrot pudding suggested by the lovely staff. Again, I was met by a wonderful concoction of slowly cooked carrots and nuts in milk (if I remember correctly). Warmly spiced, it was arguably too rich after such a satisfying curry, but while it may not sound like much on the menu, it is truly recommendable. I was advised that at other times the few tables in this, essentially, living room style restaurant fill up quickly. For comfort in the Mérida climate, I hope they'll be able to improve the efficiency of the airco in the room. The large television screen with bollywood songs isn't my preference of ambience, but hardly surprising or off-putting considering one visits a curry house. An unexpectedly worthwhile addition to Mérida's international...
Read moreEating here feels like being invited into someone’s home for a lovingly prepared meal and perhaps that’s exactly the case. My whole family, kids included, absolutely loves coming here, and we’ve had our fair share of Indian food in different countries. This place ranks high on our list.
I’ve eaten more types of samosas than I can count, and this one is the best. The wrapper is thinner and flakier, not thick, fried, and dry like so many others. It’s bursting with flavor, and while I could easily keep eating them nonstop, I know I have so much more on the menu to try. The green peas inside are the small, young, fresh ones that pop in your mouth and not the dried, frozen kind you usually find in samosas. I wish I knew where they sourced them!
When we come as a family, we can order a variety and end up sampling almost everything on the menu. The butter chicken is thick, creamy, and packed with flavor. We always start with a couple of pakoras, and the mutter paneer is soft, silky, and absolutely excellent. I love when all the flavors start to mingle together on my plate.
Service is always warm and attentive, making the experience even better. My kids are already asking when we can go back. For some reason I always want to go on Tuesdays and that is one of the days...
