Café Toscano — Restaurant in Mexico City

Food was absolutely incredible, service mediocre to terrible. I don't know if it was the rain that day, or what, but the meseros were more interested in socializing with each other than with the customers. 6 of them bunched up at the entrance talking, and people at their tablea waiting. It wasn't just my experience. I looked at 3 other tables and it was the same - they were not attended to as they should have. Assuming the service and attention to customer was a "one off", and it wouldn't repeat this way again, I would come here over and over again. The food was delicious, rich, in the right quantity and combination of flavors, not too heavy. Honestly, I loved every morsel of food, and if anyone deserved a great tip (but didn't receive due to the poor waitressing), it should have been the cook. Both dishes that I ordered were fantastic. Toscano is exactly what you'd expect from a bistro du quartier: cozy, reliable, stylishly decorated, and serving a solid variety of dishes from breakfast to dinner. It's the kind of spot that quietly becomes part of your routine: not spectacular, but comfortably dependable.

The decor is charming. The tables are a little too close for my taste, but it still allows for a pleasant chat. The terrace is a favorite, even if the chairs are somewhat uncomfortable.

Staff is fine, not especially quick or proactive, but they get the job done.

As for the food: perfectly adequate, rarely exceptional. Pricing is classic Polanco: overpriced, but on par with similar nearby spots. That said, the pizzas are a genuine standout: well-crafted, flavorful, and worth coming back for.

Toscano works for almost any occasion: solo brunches, casual dates, family dinners, or friends...

Made reservations through Google which the restaurant partners with. In my reservation notes i requested two high chairs my toddlers. When I arrived the hostess said they don't read the notes nor really work with Google (though they had my reservation) and that they use open table more...ok. So they only had one high chair for us. I mentioned that i had a double stroller as I noted in my reservation and they said it would be an hour wait to be seated outside or i could sit inside and sort out the stroller up some steps. Fortunately I was with my husband who helped me manage but I found the hostess extremely rude and unhelpful. Food was basic- good, but nothing memorable.
