Maison Belén — Restaurant in Mexico City

As a French-trained baker, I can confidently say: there is no better place in Polanco for baguettes, loaves, and croissants. None. Period. Maison Belén nails that elusive combination of authenticity, texture, and flavor that most places only gesture toward. The conchas are fluffy, light, and delicately sweet. An unexpected delight. The pain au chocolat, addictive.

The rest of their bread variety is exceptionally good as well. Their oat and cranberry cookies are also a great option if you're watching your sugar intake without wanting to sacrifice flavor.

Their bread is consistently outstanding: from crusty, golden baguettes to buttery, flaky croissants, and soft, well-structured loaves that actually last for days. Whenever I host my French friends, this is the bread I bring and we all agree: it’s the best in town.

Maison Kayser? Respectfully, yes...very good. But Belén wins with its artisanal touch and, in my opinion, superior ingredients.

The coffee is not their strongest point IMO. If you’re patient, grab one. Otherwise, I’d recommend strolling a few doors down for a better brew.

The bistro menu is solid: chilaquiles remain among the top five in the neighborhood though I will say the food used to be more exciting. Still, it’s cozy, comfortable, and the staff are friendly...

The bread basket tasted mediocre this time, but the jam salvaged it. Like in the pictures, our food looked good, but it tasted disappointing. We had the huevos benedictinos chipotle and the croque-madame. For a bakery, this place doesn't include very good bread in their meals. It also seems like the impeccable service we experienced last time was an anomaly rather than the norm. It was average today.

After my first visit, I gave five stars first and foremost because our service was fabulous. They replaced the dishes and silverware between every course. The complimentary bread basket was one of the best I've had in this city: served with savory seasoned butter and delicious olives. I will admit I was a bit disappointed by my croque-salmon, but my friend's crepe reinas caused real food envy. We had the banana tart and chocolate alambre for dessert. They were just okay. LA VISITA FUE EL 30 DE ABRIL. La comida está rica pero no se compensa con lo demás. Mi experiencia fue muy desagradable desde que al llegar nadie me hacia caso (no hay nadie que te de información de la lista de espera o algo asi), ya que pregunte a un mesero me dijo si ahorita voy, salio y como habia extranjeros claro que tuvieron prioridad (como lamentablemente muchos lugares en México) . Después ya nos llamaron pasamos y nos pusieron en la peor mesa, donde aparte de que el sol pegaba terrible atravesaba el plástico y se multiplica el calor que llegaba y le dijimos a la mesera y dijo ay pues ni modo no se pueden cambiar no ven cuánta gente hay, tal cual esas palabras, después le preguntamos acerca de un platillo u contesto "ay pues que no conocen el queso de cabra??? Es ácido 😤(con esa cara)" y en realidad queríamos como venia el huevo con el queso de cabra, revuelto, pochado, estrellado, omelette... Y bueno aunque se preguntara acerca del queso esa no es una respuesta educada o con respeto. De tercera acción pedí un latte y me llevo un americano, cuando le dije que pedi un latte de nuevo manera déspota me dijo "ay pues entonces te lo cambio" y lo arrebató por lo cual casi me lo tira encima solo porque me hice para atrás. Después fue a arrebatar literalmente los platos y una persona aun no terminaba, en fin... Decidimos de momento no decir nada porque finalmente llevaba los platillos de la cocina a la mesa y en ese transcurso pueden pasar muchas cosas. (No tenia su pin con el nombre desafortunadamente) Al final gracias al destino nos cambiaron de mesera y quién nos cobró era otra chica completamente diferente y claro le dijimos todo y dijo que iba a pasar nuestra queja, porque claro que de su trato dependen la propinas de todo el personal y no es justo que por una persona paguen todos. Pero en fin esa fue mi experiencia y por eso no volvería.

Después fuimos a pasar el.mal sabor a TOUT CHOCOLAT💕 que está a unos pasos, y nada que ver la actitud del mesero super amable, y no fuimos antes porque llegamos a las 8:30am y...
