Café Passmar — Restaurant in Mexico City

The coffee is good and definitely cheaper than a lot of other places. Especially the coffee beans. But the service staff are always cocky. They refused to let me buy a bag of coffee beans at 6pm even though there were still many other people that were being served when I arrived. I waited for my turn and then they said it is closed. Not like the counter was wiped down and shut. I told them I came in a cab just to buy coffee beans and they still refused to serve. If I didn’t have an injury I could have walked faster from the cab and arrived 2 min early. Anyway. Mexico City has plenty of good coffee shops with better service. Cuentan con una selección de café de excelente calidad. Desgraciadamente el servicio y organización son pésimos. Llegué con muchos esfuerzos un viernes, antes de las 6 para comprar café a granel, el cual supuestamente es ofertado en el negocio. No me lo quisieron vender porque había un pedido mucho más grande apalabrado y en mis narices apilaban bolsas de dos kilos que eran parte de ese pedido. Les pedí que me vendieran sólo medio kilo, y que entendieran que como clientxs, acudimos al lugar para vender el producto que supuestamente ofrecen :(. Se negaron aludiendo a las órdenes del jefe y que ya no podían bajar más café de la bodega...y no culpo al personal que al ver mi shock sentían pena y se disculpaban. Lo que me parece terrible es que no hubiera una persona GERENTE o encargadx que pudiera darme una opción, que cuidara esos detalles del servicio. Para mí eso es muestra de lo poco que les interesan sus clientxs de a pie. Las personas que con esfuerzos y a través de los años regresamos siempre a donde sabemos que el café es bueno, que en las circunstancias más difíciles ( como el periodo de pandemia) seguimos comprando fielmente, contribuyendo probablemente a q este café tan emblemático siga en la memoria colectiva de lxs amantes del café. Probablemente hay quienes disculparán estos detalles aduciendo que en cualquier negocio a veces el producto se termina y eso se entiende, pero el trato a sus clintxs también debería ser una nota a cuidar, procurar modernizarse y avisar en redes sociales o alguna plataforma de la falta de producto o la carencia de insumos. Absolutely loved this place. I visited a ton of specialty coffee while in Mexico City and Cafe Passmar was my favorite. The coffee is exceptional, well roasted and complex. The coolest part is finding such a great coffee shop tucked into a public market. I was staying in the Del Valle neighborhood and walked over in the morning, got to explore a little bit and found this gem hidden away. Hidden away from the tourists because there was a good size line inside to get my coffee. I love markets and I love them even more when there is specialty...
