Five of us stopped in for lunch while on a layover. We each had an order of tortilla soup (which is appetizer sized, in a small bowl), and an order of tacos al pastor. He asked if we wanted all the fixings with the soup (crema, avocado, cheese), we said “Sure!” We had NO idea that each fixing was going to be an additional charge. Basically, you need to pay for each ingredient in the soup. The food was really good for airport food, and service was very friendly. But the prices ended up being completely ridiculous, one of the most overpriced meals I’ve ever had. For 5 tortilla soups (with all the fixings) as an appetizer, and 5 orders of tacos, with five waters and three cokes, the bill came to over $4000 pesos (>$200 USD)!! At the end of the meal the waiter brought over a slice of chocolate cake with five spoons for us to share. We hadn’t ordered it, and the way he offered it to us made us think it was a gift from the kitchen. None of us wanted it, but we felt compelled to try to eat it so as not to offend what we thought was a gracious offer. Only after we got the bill did we see we were charged for the cake as well, $194 pesos (about $10 USD). Including the tip the bill was nearly $5000 pesos (about $250 USD) for basically soup, tacos, waters, and a few cokes for five people. No alcohol was ordered. Despite the food that tasted good, given the incredibly poor value I would not return unless someone else were paying.

So I travel quite a bit but don't ever eat at airports. I had a bit of a layover and decided to walk around the airport when I looked up and saw Cocina Urbana on the mezzanine level. I decided to give it a shot. The place was packed when I came in. Nice Latin music playing at a comfortable level. Very clean and a buzz of staff moving around. Miguel was my server, he was prompt, efficient, genuinely courteous, empathetic, attentive, and a complete gentleman. This restaurant is VERY fortunate to have him. I ordered 2 glasses of Prosecco nicely chilled w/chicken pasta salad (crisp romaine lettuce, shredded red cabbage, grilled chicken, shredded cheese, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, avocado chunks, croutons and pasta which came with a dressing that I didn't use or even need). It was a standard salad but very crisp & fresh and a generous portion. Of course the prices are typical airport prices but when I return to Mexico City..... as I often do..... I won't hesitate to stop by.

From the moment you step in, you forget you’re in an airport. Modelo Cocina Urbana offers a refined escape from the travel chaos, blending style, flavor, and hospitality into a truly unforgettable experience ✨. The service is impeccable, attentive, warm, and genuine. A special shout-out to Francisco, who not only serves with a smile but also crafts margaritas that are simply divine! A must try for anyone passing through! 🍸 The food is top-notch, beautifully presented and bursting with authentic Mexican flavour. 🌮 The ambiance is sophisticated yet cozy, with a modern urban flair that makes you feel like you’re dining in the heart of Mexico City, not an airport terminal. Ambient lighting, stylish decor, and chill music set the mood just right. ✈️✨ Highly recommended for travelers looking for a taste of Mexico with 5 star service. I’ll be back for another margarita Capitan! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

AVOID, avoid, avoid. I visited and it was terrible. I don’t normally leave this bad of a review but my experience here was next level terrible. First of all, the seating is not comfortable. You’re greeted by the servers, who seem friendly enough at first however I truly believe they all aim to scam travellers. The menu is confusing to read as well. First off, we looked at the prices and realized, wow this is insanely overpriced. But hey, it’s airport prices, you expect to pay a bit more. We chose three dishes, two of which were conveniently not available so they suggested new items without mentioning prices, but they were significantly more costly. The environment is quite chaotic and I believe they do this so you let your guard down. I was getting a bad feeling about our visit, so checked the reviews and wow had I wish I had done so sooner. Reviews and reviews about scamming, overpricing, incorrect bills. But we had ordered already so had to stay. We had ordered 1 drink each, one being a margarita that was said to be one price on the menu, however again they were “out” of the more affordable options. After reading reviews we didn’t dare order more drinks. The food came and it was barely edible. Cold fries, terrible tacos and the salad we didn’t even eat. 2 x 4$ charges for avocado we couldn’t eat. Finally the bill came and we had just wanted to leave, however I’m glad we checked the bill. We were charged $43 for ONE margarita and again the inedible food was crazy overpriced. We were also initially charged for an extra meal ($27). I spoke up to the server to say our bill was incorrect, that we ordered the cheapest margarita and we didn’t order two orders of tacos. After about 15 minutes of back and forth, a manager coming and then us being ignored, we were finally able to pay. It was awkward and I felt bad for the servers because they are in a bad position for this to happen. Our bill was corrected from 2099 mxn to 1447 mxn. But again we really had to fight to get the bill corrected. Luckily we had time to wait, but I can imagine others may feel forced to pay an incorrect price. And after reading, this is not an isolated incident. I absolutely love travelling to Mexico, and have been many times and have never experienced anything like this before. It was an unfortunate way to depart. I should have checked the reviews before hand and I would’ve gone elsewhere. To top is off we felt sick after eating. If you have no other options than this restaurant please be aware of this scam. Speaking of reviews, I think someone is inflating the reviews recently. When I visited, the rating was around 1.3, not over 4 as it’s currently rated. I wish them luck in making...

I hate giving this review but the overall ordering experience was horrible! It took us at least 10 minutes to flag someone down. When we did, we asked how long for burger and nachos, guy says 15 minutes. I asked you sure, he said yes. It took 30 minutes! Had we known, we would have ordered to go. Second thing. I mentioned 3 times and confirmed with hand gesture, I want the avocado on the side, separate, not on top. He kept saying yes and even used the same hand gesture. Guess what happened...it was all over the nachos. He even added a separate order of guacamole even though I didn't order it. When I told him we need to go, just cancel, he proceed in making ANOTHER order. I asked for box for the burger and check. More waiting. We ate the burger when it we realize the box was coming. We tell the lead waiting what happened. He said he didn't take the order. You know it's bad when they don't even bother to add a tip when we gave him our credit card.

Only reason I'm giving an extra star is as we are rushing to our gate, one of the servers rushed down with a small box of nachos (no guac!) as a gesture/apology. I didn't can for any food from them after such a horrible experience but I appreciate the attempted...
