A salty ramen that unfortunately made me feel ill, with average, rushed and impersonal service in a Japanese spot in the Escandon neighborhood. As I arrived at what seemed to be a small Japanese restaurant, it turned out to have many more tables in the place next door, but it took a bit of time to get acknowledged and be directed to a table where I was given a menu. The server seemed a bit dry in the beginning and a bit rushed, but I managed to get a sparkling water while I looked at the menu.
I decided to order the Ori Ramen (based on the pictures on Google Maps) as it looked tasty. It took about 10 minutes to get my ramen, and my first impression wasn’t as great as the plating of the ramen was a bit sloppy and didn’t look like the pictures. The first bite of the ramen was not bad, although it became apparent after more bites that the ramen was on the saltier side. The pork wasn’t my favorite though. Unfortunately, I felt ill after eating, which soured the entire experience. Although the price for the ramen was about appropriate ($240), the last thing I want is to feel sick after eating anything from a restaurant. The service was just okay, and even though there weren’t many customers when I visited, I felt a bit rushed and the service felt more fake...
Read moreGreat place serving great Japanese food with pride! The first place I went was closed, so a quick check and I popped in here. I was immediately welcomed and given a choice of seating. My Spanish is practically non-existent, but I can read a menu well enough. The menu had a mix of traditional and twists. I chose the miso soup to start, followed by a spicy tuna bowl. The miso may have been the best I’ve ever had! Big pieces of fresh mushrooms and a tasty broth with real flavor! The spicy tuna came out and I was warned that it was spicy, but not to anyone who enjoys some spice. It was good and the rice was flavorful with the right stickiness. The staff checked on me regularly and were genuinely interested in my opinion of the food. No complaints! Ori Katsuo is now on my...
Read moreThis place felt like 4 stars across the board for me. I’d definitely come back but it wouldn’t be my first choice. They didn’t have ramen when I was there so I got a Philadelphia roll, which somehow didn’t come with cream cheese but I enjoyed thoroughly regardless. My partner got a miso soup and another roll that was pretty good as well as a poke bowl she really liked. The meal was fairly expensive coming to almost 1000 mxn for the two of us, so i expected more.
The knock out of the show was the lemonade, that was 5 stars for sure. The rest of the experience just didn’t live up to...
