Me and hubby love finding new places to eat and that day we were actually looking for a ramen place next door. We saw the entrance to Casa Tikal and decided to go for Mexican Food instead. This restaurant has 2,5 rooms and an inner patio, an old house, that has paintings, old furniture, statues and figurines as decoration. The tables and table wear are simple, just like in someone's house, definitely not posh restaurant -like. The menu.. is impressively long with many different Mexican (and not only) dishes from different corners of the country. When you order a dish, you actually order a full lunch with a tortilla chips plate+ 2 salsas to begin with, a starter (soup/salad or rice), the dish itself and a water of the day, that is more than enough for 4 people.. Taste of dishes I could describe as home-made, sauces perfectly balanced, never too salty or too spicy or too rich. Water of the day is refreshing with a perfect amount of sweetness (here in Mexico water tends to be too sweet for my taste, but not in this place) If you will decide to visit during lunch time on the weekend, you might see a line outside of the door, but you will be impressed by the speed it actually disappears in the restaurant, compliment on the team work of waiters and chefs! Separately the prices need to be mentioned. There are 3-4 different prices, depending on the dish. A selection of more simple ones you can try for $80,-, more elaborated for $135, the portions are great! They make you full and satisfied so you actually can finish it and maybe share a desert of have a mezcal after to help your food settle in in the stomach. This place combines the famous 3B (bueno, bonito y barato) and we have been there 5 times already within 2 months, trying different dish every time. Casa Tikal never failed us! We are happy to have found this restaurant in Cuernavaca. Sorry for the ramen place next door, we still haven't...
Read moreWe have eaten here in the past but stopped going because the service was so poor. We decided to give it another try and while the service wasn’t much better, the food was just short of awful. We arrived too early for lunch and I decided to have chicken enchiladas, hubby had arrancheras. We asked if the sauce was really spicy and told the waiter we didn’t like things really hot so no chili, please. Someone needs to tell the cook that “ not spicy” does not mean NO SPICES! I literally could have taken a jar of pasta sauce from the store and it would have tasted better. It literally was some plain tomato sauce. I’m not even sure there was salt! We were offered nothing else. No onions, no pico de gallon, no bread, no salad, nothing! The waiter never returned, not that it would have mattered. I also don’t understand why there were several fans in the front dining room ( where there are windows) but none in the back where it was quite stuffy. At least the restroom was clean! We probably won’t be back for...
